DIRECTOR of cricket at Cricket West Indies (CWI) Jimmy Adams is hoping concrete decisions will be made in the coming week concerning the new head coach of West Indies including whether to hire an interim coach or a full-time coach.
On October 24, Phil Simmons resigned from his position as West Indies coach after the regional team failed to advance to the main draw of the International Cricket Council T20 World Cup in Australia. Simmons said his decision to leave the job was not based solely on the West Indies performance in the World Cup qualifiers.
Simmons will continue to coach West Indies until December as the team will play Australia in a two-match Test series in Australia.
Discussions are being held by CWI whether to have different coaches for different formats.
“Those discussions are actually ongoing, they have already started,” Adams said in media conference on Sunday.
West Indies batsman Keacy Carty got the first century of the 2022 CG Insurance Super50 and the second List A hundred of his career to help the Leeward Islands Hurricanes beat the West Indies Academy by three wickets in Saturday’s opener in Antigua.
Carty’s classy 103 not out, including 10 fours and two sixes off 120 balls, helped the Hurricanes chase down a target of 191 in just 39 overs, losing seven wickets in the process. Left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop produced an excellent spell of 4-40 from 10 overs despite the loss.
ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) today announced the squad for the West Indies Women’s Under-19 training camp and trial matches to be played next month in Trinidad. The 23 players will participate in two trial matches on Tuesday, 1 November and a third trial match on Wednesday, 2 November.
Following these matches, they will have a skills and fitness sessions from 4 to 6 November under the guidance of Head Coach, Steve Liburd. This is part of the preparations for upcoming tour of India from 7 to 25 of November (match schedule to be announced at a later date).
This series in the sub-continent will form a crucial part of the team’s preparations for the inaugural ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023. The global event will feature 41 matches be played from 14 to 29 January in South Africa. The official warm-up matches will be from 9 to 11 January. The 16 participating teams will play in four groups in the preliminary round. West indies have been drawn in Group C alongside New Zealand, Ireland and Indonesia.
ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) today confirmed the players who will compete in the CG United Super50 Cup, after all eight teams finalised their squads. The 50-over tournament will bowl off in Antigua on Saturday 29 October with a match between the Leeward Islands Hurricanes and the West Indies Academy at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium (SVRS).
Defending champions Trinidad & Tobago Red Force open their campaign on 31 October against Combined Campuses & Colleges (CCC) at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy (BLCA). The final will be played on Saturday 19 November at the SVRS. The other two venues for the tournament are the Coolidge Cricket Ground (CCG) in Antigua; along with the Queen’s Park Oval (QPO) in Trinidad.

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – The Cricket West Indies (CWI) Selection Panel today named the Men’s Test squad for the upcoming series in Australia. West Indies will be under the leadership of Kraigg Brathwaite and will face the hosts in two Test matches at the Perth Stadium (30 November to 4 December) and the Adelaide Oval (8 to 12 December).
The Selection Panel named one newcomer in Tagenarine Chanderpaul, the left-handed opening batter and recalled two experienced players in allrounder Roston Chase and middle-order batter Shamarh Brooks.
Lead Selector The Most Hon. Dr Desmond Haynes said: “We have a core group of players who have been part of the Test squad and have performed well. We have played two series this year – against England and Bangladesh – and won both. We have been playing good Test cricket and expect to do well against the Australians on their home turf.”
