Legendary West Indian pacer Sir Anderson Roberts, opening batsman Desmond Haynes, who is still considered one of the best the world has seen, the dodged and successful middle-order batsman, James Adams, and Barbadian-born England player, Roland Butcher, captivated a young audience of budding Berbican cricketers and their parents.
The quartet spoke at an interactive session organised by the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) at the Albion Sports Complex on Saturday.
According to Hilbert Foster, current BCB President, the aim of the “life/career-building” engagement was for the youngsters to pick the minds of four persons who had either successful international or regional careers, as to allow the young players to understand the kind of sacrifice it takes to play the sport at a high level.
Sir Andy, who is considered the father of modern West Indian fast bowling, took 287 international wickets, and the 71-year-old was vehement that “it is hard work being a fast-bowler. It is the hardest job.”

Applications for the sports marketing course from the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and the University of the West Indies (UWI) are now open.
The course has been created by the UWI’s Faculty of Sport and the Hero CPL marketing team and it will give students insights into the running of a hugely successful sporting event. At the end of the course, the students will be given the opportunity to work with the Hero CPL team as interns during the tournament.
Hero CPL offers internships every year which allows young people from across the region to gain experience in a number of departments including operations, marketing and sponsorship. The interns are fully integrated with the Hero CPL team and have become an important part in delivering a successful tournament, especially during a global pandemic.
MUMBAI, India (CMC) — Alzarri Joseph’s Gujarat Titans beat Nicholas Pooran’s Sunrisers Hyderabad in a last-ball thriller at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday to march to their fourth-straight win and back to the top of the Indian Premier League standings.
Incidentally, Titans’ last defeat was at the hands of Sunrisers nearly three weeks ago, but they turned the tables this time around, successfully chasing 196 for their seventh win in eight outings.

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — Cricket West Indies (CWI) chief executive Johnny Grave has admitted to being surprised by the timing of Kieron Pollard’s retirement from international cricket.
The 34-year-old Trinidadian ended his 2½ year tenure as West Indies white-ball captain when he called time on his career earlier this month with the Caribbean side already preparing for the Twenty20 (T20) World Cup in Australia next October.
“I thought he would continue at least until the T20 World Cup in Australia,” Grave said.
“Obviously the 50-over game is that longer format, and the older you get, the more difficult it gets to play, and that may not have surprised me if he had called it a day after the T20 World Cup later this year.
