The Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) finals will be hosted by Guyana for the next three years, starting in 2022. This is the first time the Hero CPL final will be held in Guyana and this long-term staging agreement will see the culmination of the tournament also taking place in Guyana in 2023 and 2024.
This season, Guyana will host seven group games, three knockout matches and the Hero CPL final which will take place on Friday 30 September at The Guyana National Stadium in Providence.
The Hero CPL final will be the climax of festivities surrounding these games taking place in Guyana. The Government of Guyana in collaboration with the local private sector will also stage two weeks of events which will form a Cricket Carnival. This Carnival will celebrate the best that Guyana was to offer, showcasing the music, food and culture of this vibrant and fascinating country.
West Indies great Curtly Ambrose says there’s still a lot of work to be done if the team wants to return to dominating world cricket.
The West Indies secured a 1-0 series win over England after a dominant 10-wicket win in the third Apex Test match in Grenada on Sunday.
The win extended the Windies’ home dominance over England in the past 50 years to eight wins and two draws in 11 series with England’s only series win coming in 2003-04.
“It means a lot not only for the team but for us as Caribbean people,” said Ambrose while working as a commentator for the series.
WELLINGTON, New Zealand- West Indies Women suffered a 157-run defeat to Australia Women in the first semi-final of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup, ending their sensational run in the tournament.
In a mist and rain-reduced match of 45 overs, West Indies won the toss and elected to bowl first. Alyssa Healy and Rachel Haynes 216-run opening partnership ensured Australia reached their 305/3 total from their allotted overs. Healy smashed seventeen fours and a six on her way to a top score of 129 from 107 deliveries. Haynes added 85 off 100 deliveries, while Beth Mooney finished on 46 not out. Bowling for the West Indies, Chinelle Henry finished with the best figures of 2/51, while Shamilia Connell had 1/45.
Only Stafanie Taylor, Hayley Matthews and Deandra Dottin managed to reach double figures in the West Indies run-chase. Taylor top-scored with 48 off 75 deliveries, which included four fours. Dottin 34 from 35 and Matthews 34 from 49, as the West Indies finished on 148 all out in 37 overs. Jess Jonassen had the best bowling figures for Australia with 2/14 followed by Megan Schutt with 1/8.
`WEST INDIES wicketkeeper/batsman Joshua Da Silva has described his maiden Test century, in the third and final Test against England at the National Stadium, St George’s, Grenada on Saturday as a “childhood dream.”
Da Silva scored 100 not out and was named the Man of the Match as the West Indies whipped England by ten wickets to clinch the series 1-0 and claim the Richards-Botham trophy.
“This century, it means the world,” he said, during an interview on Monday. “It’s the pinnacle of my Test career thus far and I can hope for many more of that.
“I definitely have to thank my parents, thank God of course and all my support team, my girlfriend, her parents who have always supported me, friends, coaches, (Red Force coach) David Furlonge, Phil (Simmons, the WI coach). It’s a solid team effort and the support was very necessary for me.”
Da Silva continued, “It’s a childhood dream coming true. I could remember watching Brian Lara scoring 400 (against England in 2014) and how much that meant for him. For me, to score a 100 for the West Indies, win the game and get Man of the Match, was something I couldn’t dream of.”
ST GEORGE'S, Grenada (CMC) — Cricket West Indies (CWI) President Ricky Skerritt has hailed “a remarkable three weeks of cricket” which culminated with West Indies' capture of the first-ever Richards-Botham Trophy here Sunday.
The home side trounced England by 10 wickets inside four days of the decisive third Test at the National Stadium, after chasing down a paltry 28, following the touring side's collapse for 120 in their second innings, approaching the first hour of the morning session.
England resumed the morning on 103 for eight with little hope of saving the game.
“On behalf on CWI and the West Indies supporters around the world, I want to express heartfelt congratulations to Captain Kraigg Brathwaite, Head Coach Phil Simmons, and the entire team on what were truly outstanding efforts from start to finish,” said Skerritt, who was present for the contest.
