Earlier this week, Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced West Indies’ squads to battle Bangladesh in a white-ball series set to get underway over the weekend. The announcement saw the return of Keemo Paul to both squads after a prolonged absence from the team.
West Indies Lead Selector, The Most Hon. Dr. Desmond Haynes revealed that the Guyanese’s aggression influenced the decision for his official recall.
“I observed a few games in the [Regional 4-Day] Competition in Trinidad and I was very impressed with Keemo Paul. As a selector, I want to have our bowlers competing. I don’t want us to be seen as though we’re the friendliest [or] the nicest team in the world. I want to see us with some attitude, [and] in people’s faces telling people, ‘Look, we’re here to compete. We might not be high up in the table, but we’re here to compete among the best.’ And I think Keemo Paul showed me that [character].”

The legendary opener who took over as CWI chief selector in January said West Indies must put the expertise and experience of recently retired stars, including Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Darren Bravo, and Darren Sammy to use.
“I believe that we should not go back into the situation like what is happening in today’s cricket, whereas West Indies sometimes struggle to include the past greats.
Newly appointed West Indies women’s team captain Hayley Matthews admits her new role will require plenty of learning on the job.
The 24-year-old all-rounder was named as captain of the Caribbean team last week, taking over from Stafanie Taylor who took charge of the team in 2015.
“I’m still trying to balance being player and captain. As a player, I am still trying to perform as best as I can and lead by example. That’s something a captain needs to do, lead by example, 100 percent,” Matthews told the Mason and Guest show
Following Cricket West Indies’ announcement of the West Indies Men’s white-ball squads to tackle Bangladesh in three T20 Internationals (T20I) and three One-Day Internationals (ODI) beginning this weekend, West Indies Lead Selector The Most Hon. Dr. Desmond Haynes, on Wednesday afternoon, sat down to speak to members of the media.
Dr. Haynes clarified the positions of several WINDIES players missing from the teams, including left-hand opener Evin Lewis. When asked about Lewis’ now continued absence from the white-ball squads, Dr. Haynes relayed a conversation he had with the hard-hitting Trinidadian.
Dr. Haynes began: “I spoke to Evin [Lewis] probably a couple of weeks ago when it was reported to me that Evin was asked to do a fitness test in India with his IPL franchise (Lucknow Super Giants). Because of an injury, it was suggested that he would do a 2km run. And what was reported is that he started and then he didn’t do it.”
As West Indies rolled over Bangladesh to post successive home Test series victories this year, lots of fans would have been happier with Shimron Hetmyer being part of the triumphant squad.
