When greeted with what was then a rumour that Bob Woolmer was dead, and asked to try to get some official confirmation, I never imagined that "dead" meant "expired".

Instead, I assumed "dead" meant that the Pakistan Cricket Board had not waited until the team's return to Pakistan but rather had terminated his contract immediately, even though Pakistan has one more match to play in the World Cup, after which his contract was to end.

Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer is dead.

Woolmer, 58, was found unconscious by a housekeeper at the Pegasus hotel in Jamaica this morning and rushed to the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI). He never regained consciousness.

Can Luck Strike Twice for Irish?

"I want everyone to know that Ireland is a very good side." That sounds like it would be coming from someone close to the Irish camp, but it was Pakistan's coach Bob Woolmer who made this pronouncement when it was suggested that his team would walk over Ireland in today's match.

After they snatched a tie from what, up until the 47th over, looked like a certain Zimbabwe victory, the debutants were elated. So were their fans. Although relatively small in numbers, all through the post-match press conference held across the road from the main cricket area, we could hear the Irish cheers -- and that was just for a tie. Imagine if they win against Pakistan today on St Patrick's Day!

Supporters of the West Indies team are still basking in that outstanding victory in the Cricket World Cup 2007 opener last Tuesday.

Windies WC Players Still Without Contracts

More than a month after a team of arbitrators gave a binding ruling that settled the dispute between the WICB and WIPA, West Indies cricketers playing in the World Cup are still without contracts.

According to information reacting CaribbeanCricket.com, the WICB has not yet provided the players with contract terms settled by a high-powered tribunal that included Barbados chief justice Sir David Simmons, Queen's Counsel Elliott Mottley and human resources management specialist Aubrey Armstrong.
