The Leeward Islands ended the league phase of Cricket West Indies’ Women’s T20 Blaze with a perfect record after defeating the Windward Islands by 7 wickets via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in their rain-affected contest on Wednesday.
Leewards’ seamers put on an exhibition of swing bowling under the lights at the Arnos Vale Playing Field in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. They claimed four wickets in nine balls to restrict the Windwards to four for four in 1.5 overs.
The Windwards' top five scored two runs among them, courtesy of three wickets apiece from seamers Shawnisha Hector (3/5) and Jahzara Claxton (3/20). 18 extras was the single largest source of runs in the Windwards’ total of 69 for 9, followed by Abini St Jean’s 16 and 15 from Holly Charles.
Barbados 92 for eight (Alleyne 38*, Selman 10, Schultz 4-13) beat Guyana 70 all out (Gajnabi 41*, Mangru 11, Herbert-Mayers 3-16) by 22 runs
Barbados booked a place in Friday’s Women’s T20 Blaze final, where they will face the Leeward Islands, following a 22-run win over Guyana at the Arnos Vale Playing Field on Wednesday.
Both teams entered the last game of the league phase with a chance of making it to the championship match. Guyana, however, needed the win along with bonus points. And the left-arm orthodox spin of Kaysia Schultz (4/13) placed them promptly on top, restricting Barbados to 32 for 4 in the ninth over.
Despite the wickets falling at the other end, skipper Aaliyah Alleyne scored freely to bat through the innings, finishing on 38 from 36 balls to give the Barbados bowlers something to work with, getting up to 92 for 8 from their 20 overs.
Jamaica 79 for seven (Nation 24, Taylor 21, Harricharan 3-17) beat T&T 76 for eight (Joseph 27, Anisa 9, Taylor 3-9) by 3 wickets (DLS)
Veteran all-rounder Stafanie Taylor starred for Jamaica in their rain-affected contest against Trinidad and Tobago in Cricket West Indies’ Women’s T20 Blaze on Wednesday.
Jamaica defeated T&T by 3 wickets via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in what was the curtain-raiser of the last round of matches in the league phase at the Arnos Vale Playing Field in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The contest was reduced to 17-overs-a-side following several rain interventions during Guyana’s innings. Djenaba Joseph was the lone Guyanese batter to make it into double figures, top-scoring with a 30-ball 27.
Taylor led the Jamaican attack with 3 for 9 from three overs to help restrict Guyana to 76 for 8 from their allotment. There were two wickets apiece for Vanessa Watts (2/13) and Neisha-Ann Waisome (2/19).
Afghanistan 189 for four (Rasooli 68, Sediqullah 53, Forde 2-25) beat West Indies 150 all out (King 50, Hetmyer 46, Mujeeb 4-21) by 39 runs
The West Indies suffered a 39-run defeat to Afghanistan in the second T20I at the Dubai International Stadium in the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday. The victory handed Afghanistan a winning 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The Caribbean side’s fielding display was marred by dropped catches as the top-order failed to spark once again.
The Afghanistan innings was almost a carbon copy of the first T20I. Despite losing opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz for one and Ibrahim Zadran for 22 in the powerplay, they kept their feet on the accelerator, scoring 54 from the first six.
There were multiple missed opportunities in the century stand that followed between Darwish Rasooli and Sediqullah Atal. Sediqullah was dropped on 11 and 45, while player of the match from the first contest, Rasooli (68), raced to a 26-ball fifty at the other end. His second of the series. The pair targeted a struggling Gudakesh Motie and the returning Ramon Simmonds (1/39).
The 115-run third-wicket stand was finally broken after 71 balls when Windies’ best bowler on the night, Matthew Forde (2/25), had Sediqullah caught for 53. Sediqullah’s wicket fell in a period where the West Indies might have felt they were pulling things back, having restricted Afghanistan to 29 runs between overs 16 and 19. Motie (0/54) then gave up 19 in the 20th, with Afghanistan finishing on 189 for 4.
Jamaica 100 for three (Taylor 28*, Bryce 23, St Jean 2-15) beat Windwards 99 for seven (Glasgow 47*, Fontaine 21, Whyte 1-7) by 7 wickets
Jamaica earned their first win of the 2026 Women’s T20 Blaze by defeating the winless Windward Islands by 7 wickets in the Round 4 evening contest at the Arnos Vale Playing Field in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Monday.
Standing in for resident captain Zaida James, Jannillea Glasgow batted through the innings with wickets tumbling at the other end, leading the Windwards’ scorers with an unbeaten 37-ball 47. The only other significant contribution came from Earnisha Fontaine, who scored 21 from 18 at the top of the order to help push the hosts to 99 for 7 from their 20 overs.
Celina Whyte, in the meantime, claimed 1 for 7 from her solitary over to lead the Jamaican attack, while there were identical figures of 1 for 8 for Vanessa Watts and Sherene Burnett.
