Jamaica’s National U-17 male team departs the island on Thursday, July 4, for Trinidad and Tobago where they will participate in the CWI Regional U-17 Championship from July 6 – 14.
Jamaica’s first and only hold on this regional youth cricket title came in 2012 but since then the performances have not been as impressive.
However, their previous record is not an issue of concern for the team captain Sanjay Walker of Manchester High. “It is good that we won in 2012 and this team is aiming to repeat that performance. However, all the results are history,” he said.

West Indies produced a defiant display to beat bottom side Afghanistan by 23 runs in the World Cup at Headingley.
Having lost five successive matches, the Windies were only one place above the winless Afghans but Shai Hope, dropped on five, made an assured 77.
Skipper Jason Holder blazed four huge sixes to take their total to 311-6. Afghanistan were all out off the final ball for 288, 18-year-old wicketkeeper Ikram Alikhil scoring 86 in their highest score batting second in ODIs.

Another game, another defeat. West Indies’ penultimate game, of what has been a disastrous tournament, followed the script of their campaign. It was one which extended their ‘almost’ diaries, as the Caribbean men once again came close, but predictably, fell short in a bid for only their second win of their 9-game old tournament.
The men in maroon, minus Kemar Roach, put on a lukewarm bowling display after inserting Sri Lanka, allowing the Lions to set a challenging target of 338.
It is fair to say that the West Indies’ reply was a right stutter (even with the Hetmyer/Gayle and Holder/Pooran partnerships) and that they never really started ‘batting’ until Nicholas Pooran and Fabian Allen came together. This team has produced one or two brilliant individual innings and a few decent partnerships in this tournament. However, on the basis of teamwork, the 83-run 8th wicket stand between Pooran and Allen has been the most impressive display from Holder’s men since they bounced Pakistan out for 105 in their tournament-opener at Trent Bridge.

est Indies' Nicholas Pooran, who scored a brilliant century in his side's narrow defeat to Sri Lanka, is hoping that the team can learn from its disappointing World Cup campaign and restore their pride in their next series against India.
On Monday, the 23-year-old left-hander scored his maiden ODI century (118) as the Windies suffered a seventh successive tournament defeat against Sri Lanka in Durham.
Pooran hammered an 83-run stand for the seventh wicket with Fabian Allen to give West Indies an unlikely shot at a record World Cup chase but they fell short by 23 runs.

West Indies bowling legend Curtly Ambrose has labelled Chris Gayle’s plans to play on as “utter nonsense”, urging the opener to bow out of world cricket after the World Cup.
The 39-year-old Jamaican was expected to announce his retirement from international cricket following the ICC World Cup in England. The big left-hander, however, seemed to have a change of heart during the tournament and targeted India’s tour of the West Indies as his final appearance.
Never one to shy away from speaking his mind, Ambrose has blasted Gayle. “Let me tell you something, one word; nonsense,” Ambrose said of Gayle’s plans for going beyond the World Cup.
