Incumbent Chetram Singh yesterday defeated challenger Basil Butcher to retain his position as president of the Guyana Cricket Board for the 2002/2003 term of office.
Singh defeated the former West Indies middle-order batsman by 18
votes to nine for his 11th consecutive term of office.
reports from Trinidad that the special practice game was
suddenly abandoned after Carl Hooper's XI was dismissed for 72.
It was believed that the pitch was too dangerous to continue play.
Hooper had lamented the poor quality of the pitch after the opening
day's play.
In a devasating blow, injury has forced in-form West Indies middle-order batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan out of the team, less than two weeks before the start of of their series against Pakistan, to be played in Sharjah from January 27.
The 21-year-old Sarwan is suffering from lower back pains(strained
lumbar paravertabral muscle) and is currently receiving treatment
in Guyana for the year-old problem, team manager Ricky Skeritt
announced.
Persistent rain after Tea interrupted the special four-day
practice game in Trinidad and Tobago Friday after Carl Hooper's XI
reached 96 for five.
Back-up wicketkeeper Ricardo Hibbert top scored with 39 before he
