St Kitts & Nevis Patriots franchise sold to City Sports

CPL Media Release: The St Kitts & Nevis Patriots franchise, who play in the Hero Caribbean Premier League, has been purchased by City Sports, Hong Kong - part of the City Group of companies.

City Sports are not new to cricket franchise ownership. They own City Kaitak in the Hong Kong T20 Blitz as well as being the former owners of the Bloem City Blazers, a team who were scheduled to step out in Cricket South Africa’s now defunct Global T20 League.

The company is headed by Sushil Kumar and Naren Kunder who are based in Hong Kong. Mr Kumar has investments in event management, information technology, food and beverage and sports management. Mr Kunder has business interests in the garments industry, stationary and electronics.

The Patriots team has been part of the CPL since 2015, finishing as runners-up in 2017 and in third place in 2018. The current team is led by Chris Gayle who has been at the forefront of the team’s success during his two years as captain.

Chairman of City Sports, Sushil Kumar, said: “We at City Sports are elated to be a part of the Hero CPL and having acquired the St Kitts & Nevis franchise we want to become part of the local community through the game of cricket. We want to promote the spirit of true sportsmanship and fair play, while at the same time creating a unique identity through our focus on performance and development.”

“With a total economic impact for the Hero CPL 2018 being in excess of US$127million, we are looking to bring a greater economic impact to St Kitts & Nevis in 2019 and beyond. We are also hoping our investment into the St Kitts & Nevis franchise is a catalyst to further investment into the country and growth of its economy,” Mr Kumar added.

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – Windward Island Volcanoes completed an eight-wicket victory over Barbados Pride in the West Indies Championship on Sunday.

Chasing a modest target of 33 to win, the Volcanoes eased to victory though they lost the wickets of Taryck Gabriel for a duck and Roland Cato for 11 to ensure all matches in the sixth round ended with a winner.

The result however, was never in doubt, after the Pride were made to follow on, trailing by 217 on first innings, and slipped to 157 for six at the close the previous day.

To their credit, the Pride’s lower-order did offer enough resistance to carry the match past the lunch interval.

A 51-run partnership for the seventh wicket between Shamar Springer and Tevyn Walcott frustrated the Volcanoes’ bowler for the early part of the morning session.

They carried the score to 203 for six before Ray Jordan accounted for Walcott for 27 and Springer fell for 34 a few overs later to leave the Pride on 216 for eight with the hosts still requiring another run to make the Volcanoes bat again.

It was left to Ashley Nurse with 32 from 36 balls to ensure that the Volcanoes would have to bat again before they duly completed the task.

Dar and Amin lead Pakistan to consolation win

KARACHI, Pakistan (CMC) — A blistering half-century from Nida Dar and a three-wicket haul by left-arm spinner Anam Amin ensured that Pakistan avoided a whitewash by winning the third and final Twenty20 International against the West Indies at the Southend Club Cricket Stadium here yesterday.
Dar's knock of 53 from 40 balls helped propel the home side to their highest total of the three-match series, finishing on 150 for six from their 20 overs.
Amin then claimed three scalps, including that of Windies' danger batter Deandra Dottin, to restrict the visitors to 138 for eight in their allotted 20 overs.
The West Indies entered the match already assured of clinching the series, after winning the first two matches.
Karishma Ramharack's double strike had initially put Pakistan on the back foot. She accounted for the wickets of opener Umaima Sohail (28) and Iram Javed for seven to reduce them to 80 for four in the 13th over.
But a 67-run partnership between Dar and Aliyah Riaz in seven overs wrestled the initiative away from the West Indies.

West Indies captain Jason Holder suspended for St Lucia Test

West Indies will be without their captain, Jason Holder, for the third Test of the series against England after the ICC suspended him.

Holder was held responsible for his team's slow over rate during the win in Antigua. West Indies wrapped up the three-match series with a second successive win - this time by 10 wickets - within three days in Antigua. They won the first Test in Barbados by 381 runs within four days.
