West Indies coach Phil Simmons is not be concerned that the life-changing contract awarded to Sheldon Cottrell to play for the Kings XI Punjab in this season’s Indian Premier League (IPL) will impact his cricket.
The left-arm paceman was snapped up during the IPL auction for US$1.2 million, making him one of the most expensive players this season.
Cottrell earned his place among the elites of T20 cricket after a year in which he bagged 30 wickets from 23 One-Day Internationals and 14 from 12 T20 Internationals.
Even a disastrous World Cup campaign for the West Indies did little to stop his momentum, the pacer collecting 12 scalps despite.

West Indies Legend, iconic captain of the 1980s, Clive Lloyd will be knighted as part of the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List and will be joined by former opening batsman, Gordon Greenidge.
Lloyd and Greenidge are the latest member of former West Indies teams to receive knighthood, following greats like Sir Gary Sobers, Sir Everton Weekes, and Sir Vivian Richards.
Lloyd, who earned a CBE as early as 1993, was forced to wait on the prestigious honour because as a Guyanese citizen, knighthood would have to come directly from the queen, unlike is the case in Antigua where that country gave the honour to, Sir Vivian, Sir Curtly and Sir Richie directly.

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) announces the appointment of Trevor Penney as the new West Indies Men’s Assistant Coach, on a two-year contract. Penney’s area of expertise is fielding, and he will work with the team for the white-ball formats (One-Day International and T20 Internationals).
The 51-year-old will join the West Indies team on January 2 as they start preparations for the upcoming International Home Series against Ireland. The tour will feature three Colonial Medical Insurance One-Day Internationals and three Sandals T20 Internationals from January 7 to 19.
Penney has a strong record as a successful coach with various teams around the world. He is also a former player for Warwickshire County Cricket Club where he played 158 first-class matches and 291 List A matches in a career which spanned close to two decades. He has worked with several international teams as well with franchise teams. He was Head Coach of Sri Lanka, fielding coach of India, and consultant coach to the Netherlands.
