Left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein and allrounder Jason Holder have achieved career-best rankings in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings after helping the West Indies to a series-deciding 17-run victory in the fifth Betway T20 International against England at Kensington Oval last Sunday.
In the latest weekly update to the men’s rankings, which considers performances in the last three matches of the series, Hosein moved up 15 places to 18th position after a haul of 4-30 that helped him finish with six wickets in three matches.
“It’s not something I pay close attention to. However, when I play or train, it’s always about aiming to become the best,” Hosein said while speaking with CWI Media.
West Indies Women went into the 3rd One-Day International (ODI) against South Africa Women with the knowledge that a win would seal the series victory, having taken a 1-0 lead on Monday with just the two games remaining in the series. However, the home team won the toss and gave WINDIES what has proven to be a difficult task so far in the series: chasing under lights.
In batting first, South African opener, Tazmin Brits took a liking to Shamilia Connell early in the piece. This, as she took West Indies’ frontline seamer for four 4s in her second over. Connell, however, would have her revenge, nicking off the right-hander in the following over.
And Connell would claim a second, thanks to a fantastic catch by Deandra Dottin. That wicket of Anneke Bosch brough the pair of Laura Wolvaardt and Sune Luus together.
And with milestones for both—Luus (56) and Wolvaardt (117)—they would put on 141 runs for the third wicket; setting up the innings perfectly for Chloe Tryon to finish. And finish she did, dragging South Africa’s sights from a target of 280 to 300 with 43 runs from just 24 deliveries.
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – More batters in the West Indies Women’s squad are pulling their weight and once they continue doing so in the third and final match of the One-Day International (ODI) series against South African Women on Thursday, the Caribbean side can emerge with a series win, opening batter Deandra Dottin suggested today.
She said the performances in the last match, in particular, demonstrated that the West Indies women had been maturing as a team.
“It’s good to see that there are different individuals that are actually playing a part in terms of scoring and chipping in with a couple of runs, and it’s not mainly pressure on one person. The girls are in a good space so I think that we just need to continue what we are doing,” she said.
Ahead of the six-match white-ball series against the visiting West Indies, at least seven members of the Indian camp have tested positive for COVID-19.
A report published by ESPNcricinfo revealed that four of the seven positive tests belonged to members of the Indian One-Day International (ODI) squad, with the remaining three belonging to members of staff.
ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) today paid tribute to Easton McMorris, who passed away on Tuesday. The former Jamaica captain and West Indies batsman was 86. McMorris made his Test debut for West Indies against Pakistan at Queen's Park Oval in 1958 in a team alongside Sir Everton Weekes, Sir Garry Sobers, and Sir Conrad Hunte. He played 13 Test matches and scored one century – 125 against India at Sabina Park in 1962.
CWI President Ricky Skerritt said: “I had the privilege to engage with Mr. McMorris on a few occasions over the years. I found him to be an encouraging and selfless gentleman. On behalf of CWI, I want to send condolences to his family and the entire cricket fraternity in Jamaica. Easton was a true stalwart of the game and contributed significantly at all levels, on and off the field. He was a leader at the Lucas Cricket Club, carrying on the legacy established by the great George Headley. After retirement from playing, he gave yeoman service as a board member of the Jamaica Cricket Association and manager of the Jamaica cricket team.”
