Cricket West Indies (CWI) should appoint Guyanese batsman Shimron Hetmyer as the new white-ball captain after the disappointing run of Kieron Pollard at the ICC T20 World Cup and, generally, for the men in Maroon.
This assertion has come from former CWI President Dave Cameron who believes that the current CWI leadership is not looking at the precedent of players’ leadership records when selecting captains.
“We felt as an organization that Hetmyer would be a future leader for West Indies. The way he conducted himself when we won the 2016 Under-19 World Cup and coming through the ranks,” Cameron said while speaking as a guest on Line & Length on SPORTSMAX.
West Indies coach Phil Simmons and Captain Kraigg Brathwaite have both backed wicketkeeper/batsman Joshua Da Silva to return to form during the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka later this month.
In nine Tests, the 23-year-old Trinidadian has scored 372 runs at an average of 23.25 and has two half-centuries to his credit. He made his debut against New Zealand in Wellington in December 2020, making 57 in the West Indies' second innings.
Da Silva’s form has dipped significantly.
However, his form away has been more encouraging averaging 39 while his home average is just under 14.
“A dip like that is always a concern but his away form is a lot better than his home form so we hope that that is not a coincidence and that that is a strength of his, so we are away now and hopefully he lives up to how he started the year. Hopefully, he finishes the year like that,” Simmons said.
West Indies batter Haley Matthews has targeted putting together a string of consistent performances, with the ICC Women’s World Cup qualifiers just on the horizon.
Matthews has had a strong showing in the recently concluded tour of Pakistan, scoring 132 runs in three games, with an average of 44. In addition to that, however, she also made a healthy contribution with the ball after snaring seven wickets.
“I think for me it’s going to come down to consistency. I feel like for a lot of tours I have one big score or two big scores and then I’m probably dry for the rest of the season,” Matthews told SportsMax.Tv’s InCaseYouMissedIT.
COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (CMC) — Rookie seamer Jayden Seales says the subcontinent conditions for the upcoming two-Test series will not force a curb in his enthusiasm, and plans to keep an open mind as he fine-tunes his preparation for the assignment.
The 20-year-old is on his first overseas tour after making an impressive debut earlier this year against South Africa as a 19-year-old and has so far taken 16 wickets from four Tests at an average of 21.
With the dry conditions here known to present challenges for faster bowlers, Seales said his aim was to make a quick adjustment while continuing to give 100 percent.
“Personally, I'm not too sure [what to expect] because it's the first time I'm playing down here,” said the Trinidadian.
“I will just have to assess the conditions as [best] as I can and bowl to the best of my ability when wanted for the team, and do as best as I can.”
KARACHI, Pakistan- West Indies Women defeated Pakistan Women by six wickets to clean sweep the Cool & Cool One Day International series 3-0. Sent into bat first, Pakistan Women posted 225/7 from their 50 overs. Taylor said "I think this is huge... seeing that we were coming off a (series) defeat to South Africa and to come here and win 3-0, we haven't done that in a while and it's really nice that we can do that and get ourselves match ready."
