West Indies middle-order batsman, Nkrumah Bonner, says the team’s batting line-up must find a way to get stuck in against Sri Lanka, particularly the spinners if they are to find a way to compete in the ongoing series.
Bonner, who looked much more comfortable after making an adjustment for the second innings, after being dismissed for just 1 from 11 balls in the first, believes that coping with the spinners comes down to better footwork.
"These are small things we need work on if we want to be more sure in our defense, and when we attack,” Bonner said.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Saturday announced that the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2021 in Zimbabwe has been called off. The tournament, scheduled to be played until December 5, would have decided the final three spots for the ICC Women's World Cup in New Zealand next year as well as the remaining two berths in the next cycle of the ICC Women's Championship.
West Indies won their first match against Ireland by six wickets and were slated to face Sri Lanka on Saturday at Harare Sports Club, but that match was abandoned due to a member of the Sri Lanka support staff testing positive for COVID-19 on the morning of the match, following six players that had tested positive since the Tournament began.
The ICC indicated that with the emergence of the latest COVID-19 variant in South Africa and the introduction of travel restrictions from a number of African countries, including the host country Zimbabwe, it has reluctantly decided to call off the event, with the qualification slots decided as per team rankings, in keeping with the tournament’s playing conditions. Therefore, West Indies, Bangladesh, Pakistan will now progress to the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup in New Zealand to be played from March 4 to April 3.
ST JOHN’S, Antigua – The Cricket West Indies (CWI) Selection Panel today announced the squads for the West Indies Men’s team tour of Pakistan. The series will feature three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20 Internationals (T20Is) from December 13 to 22 at the National Stadium in Karachi.
The panel named a number of uncapped players in both formats. For the ODIs, the newcomers are batters Justin Greaves, Shamarh Brooks, left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie and fast-bowling allrounder Odean Smith. Smith and Motie are also selected in the T20I squad for the first time, along with left-arm fast-bowling allrounder Dominic Drakes. Motie was a travelling reserve for the recent ICC T20 World Cup, while Drakes and Smith were net bowlers before the start of the tournament.
INTERNATIONAL Cricket Council (ICC) representative Benjamin Leaver has given cricket venues in TT a passing grade as final preparations are continuing to host the 2022 Under-19 Cricket World Cup from January 14-February 5.
Multiple venues will be used in Trinidad during the tournament for training and matches including Queen’s Park Oval, Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Diego Martin Sporting Complex, National Cricket Centre and the Sir Frank Worrell Ground at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine.
A total of 16 teams will play 64 matches in the tournament. Matches will also be played in Antigua and Barbuda, Guyana and St Kitts and Nevis. West Indies will not play any matches in Trinidad.
WEST INDIES wicketkeeper/batsman Joshua Da Silva has called on his teammates to show fight and application during the second and final Test against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium, Galle, which bowls off on November 29.
The West Indies were spanked by 187 runs in the first Test, also at Galle, on Thursday.
During a post-game interview, on the Cricket West Indies (CWI) social media platforms, Da Silva, who made 54 during the West Indies’ second innings total of 160, was asked if the WI team would require a change of approach or strategy for the second Test.
He replied, “Nobody goes out there to fail, everybody is trying our best,” he added. “It’s five days so a bit of application would do the job.”
