TAROUBA, Trinidad – The torrential rains which affected the south of Trinidad early Sunday afternoon, proved too much for the ground staff and umpires at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy to handle. It led to the abandonment of the 3rd T20 in the Sandals International Home Series.
Although by the time the teams took the field to warm-up, there was no rain, the weather had already taken its’ toll on the outfield.
After three separate full-length inspections, umpires Jacqueline Williams, Joel Wilson and Zahid Bassarath (3rd) decided that soggy spots within the 30 yard circle would be a safety hazard for the players.
The absence of a result in this fixture, means that the series remains 2-0 in favour of the WINDIES Women, with the next match scheduled for Thursday, October 4. The WINDIES Women will be keen to tie up a series win in that encounter, with South Africa now only being able to draw the series at best.

TAROUBA, Trinidad – The WINDIES Women have an opportunity to clinch the T20 Sandals International Home Series versus South Africa, by attaining an unassailable 3-0 lead, with a win today.
After a dominant performance with bat and ball on Friday night (September 28), in the second T20 International, the regional women’s team is looking to claim the series with another win today, when they meet again at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.
However, speaking to the media on Friday, Anisa Mohammed reiterated the team’s intentions to not only win the series, but do so confidently, by stating “While we are pleased with our performances in the last two matches, we cannot become complacent, we want to win the series 5-nil and gain some momentum going into the World T20 tournament.”
She was speaking after a breath-taking bowling performance, where she picked up 5 wickets in the match, including a hat-trick from the final 3 balls.
Another WINDIES player who has been putting up good performances in preparation for the tournament is Natasha McLean. The Jamaican opening batter, having scored a confident 38 in the first match, was back at it again on Friday and seems to be peaking at the right time. She amassed 42 runs in their chase of 101 and batted through the innings with her captain and country-mate, Stafanie Taylor, after fellow opener, Hayley Matthews, had fell for 17, seeing the WINDIES to a comfortable victory in the 16th over.
Natasha is confident in her ability to win games with the bat. Also, she is overwhelmed by the level of support that she has received throughout the region. She said, “I am just so happy to be able to represent the region. All of my friends, family and coaches keep telling me to back myself and my abilities and that is what I have been doing. Hopefully, I can continue to perform well.”
Led by Captain Stafanie Taylor and with a series win firmly in their sights, the WINDIES Women are gearing and ready to go. South Africa will be looking to bounce back from losing two on the trot and will seek to utilize what they have learned in those matches to their advantage. Overall, we look forward to a good spectacle of cricket this afternoon.
The game is set for 4pm Eastern Caribbean time and can be viewed live on the WINDIES Cricket YouTube channel with detailed scorecard at www.windiescricket.com

The West Indies open their 12th tour of India on Thursday (Wednesday night local time) with nothing, as far as victory is concerned, but a hope, or a wish, for victory or for a draw.
Of the 45 matches in the subcontinent, the West Indies have won 14 and lost 11, while drawing 20, and in the 49 matches in the West Indies, they have won 16, lost 7, and drawn 26.
The important numbers, however, come from the last six series anywhere, at home and abroad, where in 19 matches, India have been dominant, winning 10, losing none, and drawing nine, most of them while they were in a winning position.
The future, therefore, looks bleak, even when it is remembered that lndia are now just coming off a disappointing tour of England where they lost 4-1, a loss that may have affected their confidence.
For the West Indies, it is important to remember that India were playing away from home and also that it was, in spite of the scoreline and apart from the first match, a close, intriguing, and exciting battle.
This time, however, India will be playing at home, and on top of that, they boast a formidable aggregation, especially in the batting and bowling departments.

Mayank Agarwal has been rewarded for his rich vein of form with a maiden call-up to the India Test squad for the home series against Windies, while the in-form Prithvi Shaw has been retained, with one or both standing a chance to make their debut during the two-match Test series. Pacer Mohammad Siraj has also been selected in the Indian Test squad for the first time.
The 15-man squad announced by the MSK Prasad-led selection panel on Saturday (September 29), didn't include both Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan, while KL Rahul, who scored a hundred in the final Test against England at The Oval, in what was otherwise a low-key series for him, has held on to his spot.
Mayank scored 1160 runs in eight Ranji Trophy games last season at an average of 105.45, with five hundreds, two fifties and a highest of 304*. He extended his prolific form to the current season, with productive outings in the List-A games in England, as well as the first-class and 50-over games against both South Africa A and Australia A in August-September. He has achieved fifty-plus scores in six of his last 13 outings since August, including a knock of 220 against South Africa A in a four-day game. Shaw, too, has been making the right noises since his first-class debut in January 2017, having scored seven hundreds and five fifties, including three-figure scores against Windies A and South Africa A.
