MUMBAI, India (CMC) — A dashing knock by West Indies batting star Shimron Hetmyer went in vain as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) beat Rajasthan Royals by four wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL) here Tuesday.
Sent in at the Wankhede Stadium, Royals mustered 169 for three from their 20 overs with Jos Buttler extending his splendid form with an unbeaten 70 from 47 balls and Hetmyer belting an unbeaten 42 from 31 balls with four fours and two sixes.
In reply, RCB recovered from 87 for five in the 13th over to reach their target with five balls remaining, Shahbaz Ahmed hitting 45 off 26 balls and Dinesh Karthik lashing unbeaten 44 from 23, the pair putting on a match-winning 67 for the sixth wicket.
Despite the loss — their first of the season — Royals remained top of the tables with four points from three matches while RCB won their second to be one of six teams also on four points.
Yashasvi Jaiswal perished for four with six on the board in the second over but Buttler inspired two stands to rescue the innings.
ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) has held official face-to-face meetings for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The three meetings in Antigua included a Board of Directors’ meeting on March 10, a joint Board and Members’ Forum on Governance on March 11, and the 23rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) on March 12.
The Board of Directors, which has met remotely on numerous occasions since the start of the pandemic, met face-to-face at the Verandah Hotel in Antigua for its third meeting of the 2022 calendar year. The key highlights of the Board’s deliberations included the approval of regional cricket venues and match schedules for the remainder of 2022 and plans for the Emerging Players Academy at Coolidge Cricket Ground (CCG). The Board also received presentations on a robust fitness and medical action plan as well as an update on matters related to sponsorship and media rights.
The Members’ Forum on governance featured a presentation from internationally reputed governance expert, Dr. Chris Bart of the Caribbean Governance Training Institute. Dr. Bart’s presentation was themed “The Principles of Good Governance: What Every CWI Director Should Know”. The Governance Forum was another step in CWI’s governance awareness and transformation process which is being coordinated by CWI’s Governance Transformation & Stakeholder Relations Standing Committee. The interactive and informative session generated intense discussions on the Wehby Report recommendations for the way forward.
West Indies T20I and ODI captain Kieron Pollard was selected by the London Spirit with the first pick in the draft for the 2022 edition of The Hundred on Tuesday.
Pollard will join the likes of Mark Wood and Glenn Maxwell for the Spirit in the 100-ball per team tournament.
His Trinidadian countrymen Sunil Narine and Dwayne Bravo will turn out for the Northern Superchargers and Oval Invincibles, respectively, while Andre Russell was the first selection for the Manchester Originals. All four West Indians were taken at the highest price range of 125,000 pounds sterling.
The second edition of the Hundred will run from August 3-September 3. The inaugural edition in 2021 was won by the Southern Braves.
FORMER WEST Indies vice-captain Kirk Edwards and out-of-favour Test gloveman Shane Dowrich have completed Level Two of Cricket West Indies’ Representative Coaching Programme.
The duo was among 25 participants featuring in a two-day face-to-face coaching workshop at Kensington Oval last month, hosted in conjunction with the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) and the University of the West Indies.
Former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Smith and current Test left-hander Shayne Moseley were among those also completing the Level Two course.
Charlene Taitt, who played 17 internationals for West Indies Women between 2008 and 2010, was among five female participants.
MUMBAI, India (CMC) — Shimron Hetmyer produced an electrifying cameo but his white-ball skipper Kieron Pollard found himself shackled, as Rajasthan Royals kept Mumbai Indians winless with an impressive 23-run victory in the Indian Premier League here Saturday.
The left-handed Hetmyer, without an appearance for West Indies in five months, smashed 35 from just 14 balls, a breathtaking knock adorned with three fours and three sixes which helped propel Rajasthan Royals to 193 for eight off 20 overs at the DY Patil Sports Academy.
However, it was Englishman Jos Buttler who really starred, hitting exactly 100 off 68 balls at the top of the order to set the tone for the innings.
