India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is set to miss the two-match home Test series against West Indies, starting in Ahmedabad from October 2.
India's selection meeting for the series is scheduled for September 24. ESPNcricinfo has learned the Ajit Agarkar-led panel will pick 15 players, which is two fewer than the squad for the New Zealand Tests last October, the last home series India played.
Pant, who was India's vice-captain in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England this year, suffered a fractured left foot during the fourth Test in Manchester. While he limped out to bat in the first innings, he was replaced by N Jagadeesan in the squad for the final Test at the Oval. Pant is currently at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
It is learned that Pant has been undergoing strength and conditioning and is awaiting further updates from the BCCI medical team before he can resume batting and keeping. There is no firm timeline drawn for his return. India are scheduled to play a white-ball series in Australia from October 19, after the West Indies series.

The Trinbago Knight Riders held their nerve to beat the Guyana Amazon Warriors by three wickets in a tense finale of the 2025 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) at a jam-packed Providence Stadium.

West Indies head coach Daren Sammy has given the assurance that Cricket West Indies (CWI) has not called time on the careers of out of favour opener Kraigg Brathwaite, veteran pacer Kemar Roach and all-rounder Jason Holder.
In fact, speaking during a CWI press conference on Thursday, Sammy said there was still a possibility that the trio could suit up for the regional team in the near future.
His comments came after none of the three Barbadians was included in a 15-member squad to face India next month in two Tests.
When asked about the position regarding the trio, Sammy made it clear that they could all feature for West Indies at some point.
“For instance, you would see somebody like a Kraigg Brathwaite who is not into the Test team.
“I mean we know what Kraigg has done for us throughout his career, he played the most consecutive Test matches for the West Indies. However, over the last two years he has lost some form and we’re also trying to give some other guys an opportunity to fill a role that’s not been given the numbers over the last few series,” Sammy said.
Kellman Kowlessar, head of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Umpires Council, has hailed the appointment of Candace La Borde to the ICC’s all-female panel of match officials for the ICC Women’s 50-over World Cup, describing it as “history in the making”.
The tournament, which will take place in Sri Lanka and India, begins on September 30.
“Candace is creating history, she is the first woman umpire from Trinidad and Tobago on the first all-woman panel at the ICC (International Cricket Council). Strictly, that in itself is history in the making,” Kowlessar told the Express.
“Candace has been working very hard, she applied herself and it was just a matter of time,” Kowlessar added. “She has done various other tournaments before that. But this one is a standout for her... We are very proud of her. This is vital for the development of women’s cricket and umpires.”
