BARBADOS PRIDE will be bolstered by the inclusion of West Indies ODI captain, Shai Hope, for their crucial fifth-round clash against the West Indies Red Force in the West Indies Championship beginning today.
In a press release issued on Monday, the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) announced that Hope would replace the injured Kyle Mayers, while fast bowler Jair McAllister would replace Chaim Holder in a strong 13-man squad to face the Red Force at Kensington Oval.
Hope is set to make his first appearance for the Pride this season in the West Indies Championship, following a run of form in the International League T20 where he led the Dubai Capitals to the title.
ST JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC) — West Indies Women’s Head Coach Shane Deitz has expressed concern regarding the susceptibility of his batters to spin bowling as they prepare for World Cup qualifiers in Pakistan next month.
The West Indies Women will battle Bangladesh, Pakistan, Ireland, Scotland and Thailand, from April 4 to 19, for two spots at the Women’s World Cup which will take place in India in October.
Speaking during a virtual media interaction on Monday, Deitz said while he was impressed with the standard of play in the just-completed CG United Women’s Super50 Cup, the inability of batters to play spin bowling is an area of concern.
Deitz pointed to the fact that the majority of teams at the qualifiers will rely on spinners, making it necessary for West Indies Women’s batters to be proficient against them.
“It’s been a good two weeks looking at some of the up-and-coming and older players who have been in West Indies cricket for some time,” Deitz said.
In a significant move ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have appointed former West Indies fast bowler and coach Ottis Gibson as their assistant coach.
The 55-year-old Barbadian brings a wealth of experience to the franchise, joining a star-studded coaching team that includes Chandrakant Pandit (head coach), Trinidadian Dwayne Bravo (mentor), Bharat Arun (bowling coach), and Carl Crowe (spin bowling coach).
Gibson, who enjoyed a four-year international playing career with the West Indies, has since built an impressive coaching résumé. He has held prominent roles on the global stage, including two separate stints as England’s bowling coach.
The Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA)’s premier cricket competition has been rebranded the Michael Holding Senior Cup, in honour of the West Indies fast bowling legend.
The competition will be officially named the JCA Michael Holding Senior Cup, and will be sponsored by motor vehicle giants Stewart’s Automotive.
The change was disclosed during a press launch at the Kingston Cricket Club on Tuesday.
In a video message broadcast at the launch, the 71-year-old Holding said he wholeheartedly endorsed the competition because of the importance red-ball cricket played in his own personal development when he played in the Senior Cup competition for Melbourne Cricket Club.
ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) is pleased to confirm that Dr. Kishore Shallow has been nominated unopposed as President of CWI to serve a second consecutive term. Vice President Azim Bassarath, has also been nominated unopposed.
The term will officially commence on March 29, 2025, at CWI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Antigua, where the organization is headquartered. This would mark the second successive election in which President Shallow would be elected unopposed, reflecting the confidence and support he continues to receive from the cricketing fraternity across the region.
His nomination was put forward by the Trinidad & Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) and the Leeward Islands Cricket Board (LICB).
