An unfortunate floodlight failure at the National Stadium in Providence, Guyana saw a reduced over match in the Eliminator game of the 2024 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
A two hour delay whilst the light was fixed saw the Barbados Royals set a revised target of 60 runs in five overs. The Royals made short work of the chase, David Miller almost single-handedly getting his side over the line with four balls to spare by hitting a brutal 17 ball fifty that included five sixes and three fours.
Trinbago Knight Riders won the toss and batted first, amassing 168/3 off 19.1 overs before the lights went out. Nicholas Pooran scored a masterful 91 not out off 60 balls to anchor their efforts with captain Kieron Pollard and Andre Russell adding support at the end of the innings with 17 and 20 runs respectively. Jason Roy assisted Pooran from the top of the order with 25 off 17 balls after the early dismissal of Sunil Narine – bowled by Theekshana off the third ball of the match.

This decision was made by the Board of Directors during a meeting held in Port of Spain on September 28, 2024.
With over a decade of experience at CWI in various roles, Inverary, an Antiguan national, born in Guyana, has played a pivotal role in driving the organization’s strategic and operational initiatives. Most recently, he spearheaded the formation of CWI's 2024-27 Strategic Plan, titled 'The Long Run', which outlines a comprehensive roadmap focused on improving governance, enhancing cricket development, optimizing operational efficiency, and ensuring long-term growth and sustainability for the organization.
A graduate of the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Inverary holds a First-Class Honors Bachelor of Science in Management with a major in International Business. He also earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of South Wales.
Before West Indies Cricketer Dwayne John Bravo was selected for the West Indies senior team, I had identified him as someone who would likely be selected and go on become a star. Boy, did I pick that one right! This was way back in February 2004, yes, that is right, 20 years ago, when he was only 20 years old. I was at a Carib Beer Cup match in Jamaica (I believe it was at Alpart Sports Club in St Elizabeth) and asked him for an interview. He was modest and also surprised that someone, writing for the foremost cricket website CaribbeanCricket.com wanted to interview him. We stood up by a chain link fence as you can see from the picture. In recognition of his announcement that he is retiring from all forms of cricket, below is the transcript from that interview, first published on February 13, 2004. A few months later, he was on his way to England with the West Indies team.

JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) extends warmest congratulations to former West Indies Captain Merissa Aguilleiraon her remarkable achievement of receiving the prestigious Hummingbird Medal (HBM) Gold Award at the 2024 National Awards of Trinidad & Tobago. The awards ceremony took place on Tuesday 24th September, at the President's House in St Ann's, Port-of-Spain. CWI President, Dr. Kishore Shallow congratulated the former captain on behalf of the organisation. Dr. Shallow said,

The Hummingbird Medal Gold Award is one of Trinidad & Tobago's highest honours, recognising loyal and devoted service beneficial to Trinidad and Tobago, in any field of human endeavour or for gallantry or other humane action. Merissa was recognised not only for her immense contributions as a Trinidad and Tobago national to the West Indies team, but for her contributions to the sport on the island.
Guyana Amazon Warriors helped their chances of securing a top two finish in the 2024 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) by inflicting a 47 run defeat on Barbados Royals. The Royals would have been hopeful for a top of the table finish too given their earlier form in the competition but a third defeat for them in recent matches means they may have to settle for third or fourth place and a harder path to the title.
Royals captain Rovman Powell won the toss on what looked a fantastic batting wicket and opted to insert the opposition. The pitch was conducive to stroke-play and despite the early loss of Rahmanullah Gurbaz the Warriors cashed in, posting an imposing 219/8 off their 20 overs.
At one point, when Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer were in full flow and displaying some mouth-watering strokeplay it very much looked like a bigger total would be in the offing for the Warriors but after the two experienced hands fell before the end (for 71 off 37 balls and 57 off 34 balls respectively) the Royals managed to peg the defending champions back in the final five overs. Maheesh Theeskhana the pick of the Royals bowlers with an economical and wicket-taking spell of 3/15.
