Holding Takes Issue with Campbell Selection

Former West Indies fastbowler, Michael Holding, has questioned the logic behind the selection of 31 year-old Sherwin Campbell ahead of 25 year-old Leon Garrick for the upcoming two-Test and one-day series against Pakistan in Sharjah.

Holding said while he could "understand" the desire for an "experienced" player to replace the injured Brian Lara and Ramnaresh Sarwan, it seemed illogical to take Campbell since he was unlikely to play ahead of openers, Chris Gayle and Daren Ganga.

West Indies cricket captain Carl Hooper feels the upcoming series against Pakistan in Sharjah will be very important for himself and the team and expects to lead from the front.


According to Reuters news agency, Hooper said the loss of key batsmen Brian Lara and Ramnaresh Sarwan will require him to be at his very best.

WICB Wants Speedy Lara Bribery Probe

The West Indies Cricket Board has written to lawyer Elliott Motley requesting he hasten his investigation into star batsman Brian Lara, according to WICB Chief Executive Gregory Shillingford.



The inquiry, set up in April, followed an allegation in a report published in November 2000 by India's Central Bureau of Investigation that Lara received $40,000 for playing badly in two one-day internationals in 1994. He was the only West Indian cited.

Three New Faces in T&T Busta Cup Squad

Three uncapped players have been called to the Trinidad & Tobago Busta Cup squad for the first match of the 2002 season which starts on Friday at the Queens Park Oval in against the Leeward Islands.


The squad will be captained by experienced middle order batsman Richard Smith and the new players are, middle order batsmen Denzil James, Aneil Kanhai and Sherwin Ganga, younger brother of West Indies opener Daren Ganga.
