ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – The Cricket West Indies (CWI) Women’s Selection Panel today announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming West Indies Women’s “A” Team tour to Pakistan from 17 October to 8 November. The West Indies Women’s “A” Team will be led by Head Coach Shane Deitz and captain Rashada Williams, the top-order batter and wicket-keeper, while Ashmini Munisar the off-spinning allrounder has been named as vice captain.
This is the first ever West Indies Women’s “A” Team Away Tour which will feature three 50 over matches against Pakistan “A” at the Lahore Country Club in Muridke, followed by a tri-nation T20 Series with Pakistan “A” and Thailand. The preliminary matches will be played at the Lahore Country Club with the final at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Lead Selector for Women’s and Girls’ Cricket Ann Browne-John said: “The ‘A’ Team tour to Pakistan is a welcome addition to the calendar. It is a perfect opportunity for the developing players to get some international experience. The team is a combination of players who participated in the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup and players who have just started to establish themselves in the Senior Team set-up, some of whom are in Australia for the ongoing series.”
In a groundbreaking collaboration, the University of the West Indies (UWI) and the Rajasthan Royals, an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise owned by India’s Royals Sports Group, have formalised their partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
This landmark agreement, which was shared by the university via Facebook, paves the way for both entities to synergize their efforts in developing specialised educational programmes catering to aspiring sports scholars at UWI.
The MOU was inked in September, when Jake Lush McCrum, the chief executive officer of the Rajasthan Royals, journeyed to UWI’s Cave Hill Campus to put pen to paper.
ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) today announced the match schedule and venues for the West Indies Academy home series against Ireland Academy. The series will feature three 50-Over matches and two four-day matches in Antigua from 17 November to 5 December.
The first 50-Over match will be at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium (SVRS) on Friday 17 November followed by the second match at the Coolidge Cricket Ground (CCG) on Sunday 19 November. The third limited over match will be back at SVRS on Tuesday 21 November. Both four-day matches will be played at CCG – the first starting on Sunday 25 November and the second start on Sunday 2 December.
Graeme West, CWI’s High-Performance Manager, outlined the idea behind the series and the structure. He noted that CWI continues to prioritize the development of players with the aim to prepare them to play at the highest level.
Cricket looks set to return to the Olympic Games after more than a century.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced yesterday that it was one of five sports that have been proposed for inclusion at the Games in the American city of Los Angeles in five years’ time.
The proposal is to include the so-called ‘gentleman’s game’, as well as baseball-softball, flag football (a limited-contact version of American football), lacrosse, and squash, a statement from the organisers indicated.
Following its discussion of the LA28 proposal, the Olympic Programme Commission of the IOC will issue a recommendation to the IOC Executive Board, which will present the proposal to the 141st IOC Session from October 15-17 in Mumbai, India, coincidentally where the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is taking place.
Cricket West Indies (CWI) president Dr Kishore Shallow has reprimanded Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) head Conde Riley for “serious breach of trust” and bringing “the entire CWI organisation into disrepute.”
In a strongly worded letter to Riley on October 5, Shallow outlined a number of issues which he said reflected poorly on the Bajan’s stewardship.
The most egregious, Shallow said, was the 70-year-old Riley’s appearance on the Mason and Guest radio show on September 26, when he claimed Barbados had been awarded the rights by the International Cricket Council to host the final of the 2024 T20 Cricket World Cup.
The World Cup is being held in the West Indies and US, with Barbados, Trinidad and Guyana reportedly vying to host the final. No announcement has been made by the ICC or CWI about the venue for the final.
