A resolute Kraigg Brathwaite and a free-scoring Shimron Hetmyer helped windies turn the tide and eventually bag the opening day honours in the second Test against Bangladesh in Jamaica. Batting cautiously in the first couple of sessions on a surface that aided plenty of turn, the Windies switched gears with Hetmyer leading the charge from the front as the hosts added 131 runs off just 27 overs to finish the day at 295/4.
Hetmyer's intentions were evident right at the start as he punished a shorter delivery and a fuller one off Taijul to start proceedings after the Tea break. Even though Mehidy Hasan continued to pose questions having already picked up a couple of wickets in the first session, the runs were flowing from the other end with Hetmyer picking regular boundaries. Brathwaite eventually got to his second century of the series off 259 balls having showed tremendous resilience throughout the day. With the tide turning completely, Bangladesh took the new ball immediately in search of a breakthrough but once again brought on the spinner much earlier like they did in the first session.

Windies will have an opportunity to move up the ICC Test Rankings when they take on Bangladesh in the final encounter of the two-match Test series at Sabina Park in Jamaica. The hosts will be brimming with confidence after their comprehensive showing in the first Test with both bat and ball. Still, it will be of utmost importance that they eliminate complacency and press home the advantage. Notwithstanding the result in Antigua, the visitors too will have taken heart from their performance with the ball on Day 2.
The Caribbean men’s hopes of sealing the series 2-0 have been dented as they will be without the services of Kemar Roach. The loss of Roach, who suffered a right hamstring injury during the first Test, disrupts the rhythm of the (bowling) opening partnership that has produced a combined 36 wickets this season for the West Indies. Additionally, losing a crucial member of their relentless threat to left-handers. Roach, who has been replaced in the squad by Alzarri Joseph is most likely to be replaced in the team by Keemo Paul and replaced at the top of the (bowling) innings by captain Jason Holder.
While, there is no overstating what a blow the loss of Roach is to this West Indian team, excuses will not be made in advance. Windies, who are attempting to grasp this immediate chance to rectify their missed opportunity against Sri Lanka, have led in two of their last three series and have failed to press home the advantage in either. Earning merely a draw in the second Test against Zimbabwe last year (after winning the first) and allowing Sri Lanka to draw level in their recent visit to the Caribbean. With the continuous hope of ‘turning the corner’, these situations must be leveraged in order to turn that proverbial corner. Therefore, this colossal opportunity presented to Holder and his team is one which must be taken.

Raymon Reifer dismantled India A with a five-wicket haul to give Windies A the upper hand on the second day of the second unofficial Test in Taunton on Wednesday (July 11). Things started on a positive note for India A as Windies A were able to add just one run to their overnight score before folding for 302.
However, things went pear-shaped pretty quickly for India A as they were shot down for just 192 with Reifer and Oshane Thomas sharing eight wickets between them. India A lost wickets in clusters and failed to stitch a significant partnership. From 36 for no loss, they slipped to 48 for 3. A 66-run stand between Karun Nair and Ankit Bawne took the team past 100 before Reifer sent back Nair.

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Young fast bowler, Alzarri Joseph is in the 13-man Test Squad to face Bangladesh in the 2nd Test to start at Sabina Park this Thursday.
Joseph on his return to international cricket was the most successful bowler for the President’s XI side vs Bangladesh with 4 for 53 from 15 overs just under two weeks ago.
Absent from the squad is Kemar Roach who has been ordered to rest following a hamstring strain in the first innings of the Test in Antigua that the WINDIES won by an inning and 219 runs.

The win in the first Test, saw some positive movements in the ICC rankings for several players. Roach, 20th and Brathwaite, 16th are now in the Top 20 in bowling and batting respectively; while Captain Holder moves up two places to 52nd and to 23rd in the bowling. Other players to be tagged in the ranking are Powell up five places to 61st and Cummins, up 12 places to 55th.

A fighting century from West Indies 'A' captain Shamarh Brooks led a West Indies A fightback, but honours were left evenly shared at the end of the opening day of the second four-day "Test" against India yesterday.
Brooks led from the front, stroking an unbeaten 121 as the Windies closed on 301-9 after winning the toss and electing to bat at the Cooper Associates County Ground. His knock was one of the few bright sparks, as no other Windies batsman made 50, and only two made more than 20. Brooks was the mainstay of the innings, having batted for one minute shy of five hours and faced 224 balls. He has so far struck 15 boundaries.

With the Windies struggling on 222-8 and in serious danger of being bowled out, the skipper found an unlikely partner in Sherman Lewis.
The two added 70 valuable runs in a ninth-wicket partnership which helped to carry the Windies to relative safety and frustrated the Indian bowlers in the process.
By the time Lewis was dismissed for 18, caught behind off the bowling of Mohammed Siraj, the score had grown to a respectable 292.
Oshane Thomas (2) is the other unbeaten batsman. Earlier, the West Indies had wasted a decent start from John Campbell and Devon Thomas, who added 49 in an opening partnership.
