PROVIDENCE, Guyana – Cricket West Indies is advising fans who purchased tickets for the first MyTeam11 One-day International between West Indies and India yesterday at the Guyana National Stadium that they can claim a 50 per cent refund of the face value of their tickets, following the adverse weather which made only 13 overs of play possible.
Fans will be able to claim their refunds from the ticket office at the Guyana Cricket Board in Bourda from 11 am to 5 pm from Tuesday, August 13 until Thursday, August 15.
Refunds can only be claimed for tickets purchased from official CWI ticket offices at the Guyana National Stadium, the Guyana Cricket Board office and the two retail outlets – Imran & Sons and The American Closet – on presentation and exchange of the physical ticket/ticket stub for the match.
Windies legend Desmond Haynes has accused Cricket West Indies (CWI) of turning a cold shoulder to his aspirations of joining the regional cricket team’s coaching staff.
Haynes, once part of the most successful opening duo in West Indies cricket history, has expressed an interest in serving the regional team in the capacity of coach for the last couple of years.
Despite receiving ringing endorsements from several former legends, Haynes was first overlooked under the Dave Cameron administration when Cricket West Indies (CWI) appointed Richard Pybus. Under the new Ricky Skerrit-led association, which later pledged to use regional talent to fill vacancies, he was again overlooked as Floyd Reifer was named interim coach heading into the ICC World Cup.
St. John’s, Antigua – WINDIES Kiddy Cricketers from Guyana, Trinidad and Jamaica are gearing up and sharpening their skills to showcase their abundant talent during the West Indies vs. India home series matches in August.
Supported by Cricket West Indies and presenting programme partner Scotiabank, more than 350 primary school boys and girls from across host venues Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago and Jamaica will be sharing the international stadiums with the West Indies and Indian cricket stars during the lunchtime interval displays on Thursday 8th, Sunday 11th and Saturday 31st August respectively.
The children participating in the interval displays represent the top primary school cricket teams from each territory who participated and excelled in the 2019 Windies Kiddy Cricket Festivals, earning the right to attend the international matches and perform in front of thousands of spectators. The schools performing in the displays are:
Kingstown, St. Vincent And The Grenadines - Barbados made it consecutive titles in the past month, as they emulated their Under-17 counterparts to win the West Indies Rising Stars Under-19 Championship by 4.7 points ahead of Windward Islands.
Round Five was hampered by rain with only two of the three matches seeing action as the Windward Islands versus Jamaica game at Cumberland was abandoned without a ball bowled.
Barbados and Windward Islands entered Round Five sitting in the top two spots in the table respectively, with the Rising Stars Championship title on the line.
Based on points allocation permutations for bonus and fast bowling points, set out in the CWI tournament playing conditions, Windward Islands needed to win their match and gain 1.1 points more than Barbados, to be crowned champions, while Barbados needed to win and gain at least 5.1 match points.
Half-centuries by captain Virat Kohli and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant paced India to a comfortable seven-wicket victory over the West Indies in the final fixture of the three-match T20 International series at the Guyana National Stadium on Tuesday.
Responding to the West Indies total of 146 for six, Pant top scored with an unbeaten 65 and Kohli contributed 59, the pair taking the match away from the home side with a third-wicket partnership of 106 which ensured the tourists a clean sweep of the series and consigned the World T20 title-holders to their sixth consecutive defeat in the format.
Pant sealed victory in style with a six back over the head of bowler and captain Carlos Brathwaite at the start of the final over of the match as India finished on 150 for three.
