BASSETERRE, St Kitts – Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirmed a revised start time of 12pm (11 am Jamaica/9:30 pm India) for the third match between West Indies and India in the Goldmedal T20I Cup, powered by Kent Water Purifiers to be played at Warner Park in St Kitts on Tuesday 2nd August.
Following the delayed start on Monday, the teams have agreed to start the third Goldmedal T20 Cup match at a later time to ensure that the players receive adequate rest and recovery time for the back-to-back matches in St Kitts and in consideration of the back-to-back matches to come in Florida.
ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) and USA Cricket are delighted to announce a first-ever Women’s Youth bilateral international series, as the West Indies Women’s U19 team will travel to Florida to take on USA Women’s U19s in a five-match T20 International (T20I) series. The games are the first time in history that female youth internationals between the two teams are taking place.
With both teams having qualified for the inaugural ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup taking place in South Africa in January 2023, the series will be ideal preparation for both teams as they build up to the historic first U19 World Cup. USA Women’s Under 19 team also have the additional recent benefit of the exposure at the CWI Rising Stars Women's U19 T20 Championship, where they were crowned champions having played undefeated throughout the tournament.
The series has been made possible because of the ongoing strategic partnership between CWI and USA Cricket which aims to unlock the potential of the USA and fast-track the growth of the sport; to inspire the next generation of young West Indians and re-ignite the cricketing passion in the Caribbean.
ST JOHN’S, Antigua – The Cricket West Indies (CWI) Senior Men’s Selection Panel today announced the squads for the West Indies “A” Team series against Bangladesh “A” Team to be played at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Saint Lucia from 4 to 20 August. The two teams will play two four-day first-class matches followed by three 50-over matches.
Joshua Da Silva, the wicket-keeper/batter, will lead the team in both formats, with Andre Coley as the Head Coach. The squads feature several players with international experience, as well as others who have graduated from the CWI Rising Stars U19 and CWI Emerging Players teams.
Speaking ahead of the series, Lead Selector the Most Hon. Dr Desmond Haynes said: “We stated from very early that we would look to give the opportunities to players and broaden the pool. The ‘A Team’ programme is a very good thing for West Indies cricket and CWI must be complimented for ensuring that we have these matches back up and running and arranging these games in Saint Lucia.”
Barbados Women were brought back down to earth after suffering a heavy nine-wicket thrashing at the hands of powerhouses Australia Women, in their second game of the Commonwealth Games.
Buoyed by their impressive win against Pakistan Women on Friday, Barbados Women quickly had their enthusiasm dimmed when they were bundled out for 64 off their 20 overs here Sunday.
In reply, Australia Women raced to their target inside nine overs with captain Meg Lanning hitting an unbeaten 36 and opener Alyssa Healy scoring 23 not out.
Sent in earlier, Barbados Women never got out of the blocks, their innings destroyed by leg-spinner Alana King, who grabbed four for eight, and seamer Tahlia McGrath, who claimed three for 13.
Former India batter VVS Laxman and former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori have been added to the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee which is headed by Sourav Ganguly.
Both Laxman and Vettori were added as current player representatives while former West Indies all-rounder Roger Harper was appointed to the committee as past player representatives.
ICC chair Greg Barclay had indicated in a chat with BBC’s Test Match Special earlier this season that Lord’s was the preferred option mainly because the WTC final is scheduled in June – both in 2023 and 2025. “It’s June so that rules out a number of other venues and we’ve got to get certainty around where it’s hosted,” Barclay had said.
