POTCHEFSTROOM, South Africa- The West Indies Rising Stars defeated Indonesia U19 Women by 77 runs at the North-West University Oval, to remain unbeaten at the ICC Women’s U19 World Cup.
Head Coach Steve Liburd praised his team's performances "It's very pleasing to see us continuing to build on what we've learnt on the previous tours to the USA and India. The girls stuck to the processes and it's pleasing to see them reaping the rewards. Zaida is reaping the rewards of the hardworking she's done at camps and over the holidays, it's good to see her put her hand up and take charge of leading the innings."

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – The Cricket West Indies’ (CWI) Men’s Selection Panel today announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test Series in Zimbabwe, starting on 4 February. The Selection Panel recalled experienced fast bowler Shannon Gabriel, as well as left-arm spinners Gudakesh Motie and Jomel Warrican.
Gabriel has taken 161 wickets in 56 Tests, placing him joint 12th in the West Indies all-time wicket-takers list and more recently was the joint-leading wicket-taker in the CG United Super50 Cup for the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force in November last year.
Gabriel’s last Test Match was against Sri Lanka in November 2021. Warrican’s last international appearance was also in Sri Lanka in December 2021 when he played in both matches in the Test Series. Motie made his Test debut for West Indies in Antigua in June 2022 in the first Test of the two-match Series victory against Bangladesh.

The carnival season is upon us and Cricket West Indies (CWI) now seems to have jumped feet first into the celebrations with its own versions of bacchanal which have been invariably unfurling with each passing day.
A President not seeking re-election, his Vice President intending to run as his replacement, circulating insider-source rumours of the CEO’s soon-to-be-expiring contract having been secretly extended for a further two years being officially denied just as quickly as they had surfaced.
These were foremost among the unfolding events of the past seven days which have marked what has only been the second week of the 2023 New Year!
Ricky Skerritt’s reported announcement of his intentions to not seek re-election as CWI President when the governing body holds its 2023 Annual General Meeting this coming March, has been widely anticipated.
Skerritt’s announcement was expected to follow Phil Simmons’ resignation from his position as West Indies Men’s cricket Head Coach, which had come as a direct result of the West Indies 2022 T20 World Cup participation disaster.

Opening batsman Matthew Nandu and pacer Shamar Joseph were among the standout performers on the opening day of the Guyana Harpy Eagles Four-Day practice match at the National Stadium, Providence, on Saturday.
With Tagenarine Chanderpaul set to be absent from the first Regional Four-Day match on February 1 due to West Indies commitments, Nandu struck a compact 78 from 147 balls to raise his hands for selection.
The West Indies Under-19 batsman stroked 12 fours in his knock that seemed destined for triple figures until a needless run out.
Joseph, who had some solid performances in the Inter-County 50-Over tournament last year, nipped out 4-30 from eight overs as Veersammy Permaul XI was bowled out for 261 in 86 overs.

POTCHEFSTROOM, South Africa- The West Indies Rising Stars opened their ICC Women’s U19 World Cup campaign with a 7-run win over Ireland Women’s U19 at the North-West University Oval.
Zaida James told CWI Media, “It’s certainly a great feeling to have an all-round performance like this and even better that we had a team victory. Our focus is one game at a time and to finish the group stage strong, then we will look at the remaining stages of the tournament.”
