The West Indies will enter the super sixes stage of the ICC World Cup Qualifiers with it all to do after they were stunned in a super over by the Netherlands on Monday.
Teams will take points earned from the group stage into the super sixes if you beat the other qualified teams from your group.
As a result of their losses to Zimbabwe and the Netherlands, the West Indians will enter the super sixes stage with no points while the Netherlands will enter with two and Zimbabwe with four.
The West Indies made a seemingly insurmountable 374-6 from their 50 overs after being put in to bat by the Dutch.
The innings was set up excellently with a 101-run opening stand between Brandon King and Johnson Charles.
Charles was first to go for 54 to bring Shamarh Brooks to the crease to join King. The pair put on a further 59 before Brooks fell for 25.
Captain, Shai Hope, was next to make his way out to the middle and just three runs later, King fell for a well made 81-ball 76 to bring Pooran to the crease.
Hope and Pooran, then, added a further 108 before Hope eventually fell for 47 in the 41st over.
GROS ISLET, St. Lucia- The West Indies Women took a 1-0 lead in the three-match CG United One Day International series, defeating Ireland by 58 runs at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in St. Lucia.
Winning the toss and batting first, Captain Hayley Matthews led the West Indies scoring, striking her fourth ODI century 109 (107), while Stafanie Taylor notched her 40th half-century 55 (68) and Chinelle Henry brought up her maiden ODI fifty in 38 deliveries as the West Indies posted 297/6 in their 50 overs. Cara Murray was the pick of the Irish bowlers, with figures of 10-0-60-3.
Matthews then returned with the ball to scalp 10-0-53-3 while Afy Fletcher 10-0-49-2 and Qiana Joseph 10-0-53-2 assisted as the West Indies spun the Irish batter into a web. Ireland reached 238/9 in their fifty overs, Gaby Lewis 83 (100) and skipper Laura Delany 40 (53) were their top run-getters.

The West Indies, led by allrounder Hayley Matthews, face Ireland in three CG United One Day Internationals, West Indies’ third ICC Women’s Championship fixture, as the team seek to win points towards automatic qualification for the ICC Women’s World Cup in 2025. The Daren Sammy Cricket Ground will host the CG United ODI Series and the three-match T20 Internationals (T20I) Series to follow.

HARARE, Zimbabwe – West Indies all-rounder Yannic Cariah underwent a surgical procedure to repair a fracture to his nose. The leg-spinner and left-handed batter suffered a nasal fracture when he was struck in the face during a training session last Saturday while preparing for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament in Zimbabwe.
The procedure was performed in Harare on Thursday evening. Cariah will remain with the squad under the care of the CWI Medical Team whilst he recovers. A decision on when he can return to play will be made in the coming days, as the medical team support his recovery.
Assistant Coach, Floyd Reifer, was also struck in the face during a training session on Wednesday and has also undergone a similar procedure. Reifer will continue his coaching duties under the supervision of the CWI Medical Team.
Chairman of the Senior Selection Panel of the Guyana Cricket Board Ramnaresh Sarwan said the rationale behind contracting a group of young players in the Guyana Harpy Eagles set-up for the 2023-2024 season is to allow them the opportunity to cultivate a professional mindset and attitude from an early age.
Following the Cricket West Indies Professional Cricketers Draft on Thursday, the Harpy Eagles 15-man was announced, boasting six players under the age of 25, two of whom are currently part of the national Under-19 team.
“We’re trying to groom players from early,” Sarwan told News Room Sport on Thursday evening.
“This is not to say that we’re overlooking the senior players- they can still be selected to play. But, this is about giving young players an opportunity to grow, which in turn will help us to have a solid core going forward.”
