During Match 14 of the 2019 Hero Caribbean Premier League both Evin Lewis of the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots and Ali Khan of Trinbago Knight Riders were charged by the on-field umpires with breaching Article 2.2.4 of the Code of Conduct - Inappropriate & deliberate physical contact between players in the course of play.
The incident occurred following the third ball of the Super Over being bowled by Ali Khan.
Both players pleaded guilty to the charge and accepted the following sanctions imposed by Match Referee, Simon Taufel, which are in keeping with the sanctioning guidelines provided for such breaches, at Article 7.3 of the Code:
Carlos Brathwaite was the all-round hero in a stunning St Kitts & Nevis Patriots Super Over victory as Trinbago Knight Riders’ winning start to the 2019 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) came to an end in the most dramatic possible way.
Brathwaite first made 64 from 30 balls to get the Patriots’ pursuit of the Knight Riders’ 216/4 back on track after they slumped to 80/4. When the scores ended level after 20 overs each, Brathwaite then smacked two sixes and a four to take the Patriots to 18/0 from their Super Over before bowling six nerveless deliveries as TKR mustered only 5/1 in reply.
In regulation time, Lendl Simmons had continued his run of fine form with a 45-ball 90 that set the Knight Riders on their way to another big total.
The records are tumbling, history is being created, the Warriors and the Knight Riders are dominating and still… the young men from the region are representing.
Match 7 – Fabian Allen
Match 7 of Hero CPL2019 was a record-breaking one. Chris Gayle claimed the first century of the season to help the Tallawahs to a, then, CPL record of 241. Evin Lewis set the tone for the home team’s chase, but when it seemed the Patriots would finally relent, Fabian Allen was there to take his team home. In a half-century partnership with Sharmarh Brooks, the all-rounder was calm and decisive in his striking. In his innings of 37 from 15, his strike rate, which was a touch under 247, was good enough to get his team home with seven deliveries to spare.
The Barbados Tridents have announced that Dan Christian will be joining the franchise for the remainder of the 2019 Hero Caribbean Premier League. Christian will be replacing Asif Ali who is now no longer available due to domestic commitments in Pakistan.
Christian brings a huge amount of experience to the Tridents squad having played 293 T20 matches across his career. He has played in the T20 Blast in England, at the Indian Premier League, the Pakistan Super League and in the Australian Big Bash. He has also previously appeared at the Hero CPL for the Trinbago Knight Riders in 2017 when they won the title.
All-rounder Christian has played 19 ODIs and 16 T20 internationals for Australia, has scored two T20 hundreds in his career, has two five wicket hauls and claimed four wickets in an innings six times.
Jamaica Tallawahs all-rounder Rovman Powell will feature in no more Caribbean Premier League matches this season. This is because of an injury that the 26-year-old picked up at the crease against the Trinbago Knight Riders in what turned out to be the Tallawahs’ fourth straight loss of the season on Friday night.
Powell suffered an abdominal strain in the ninth over of the Tallawahs’ innings and had to retire hurt.
The right-hander had just hit a six off spinner Khary Pierre; however, he fell to the turf writhing in pain immediately following the shot.
