With stand-in captain Rachael Haynes the only batter unable to get among the runs, the scorecard would not tell the story of WINDIES’ improved effort with the ball, in the 2nd ODI against Australia on Sunday. Still, Australia Women were able to take an unassailable 2-0 series lead in the three-match ODI series—eventually cruising to a 151-run win in Antigua.
Stafanie Taylor, however, can take heart in the way her reshuffled bowling attack picked themselves up from a disappointing display on Thursday. Yet, the lack of genuine wicket-taking options and game changers meant that the Australians were able to come out on top in a game of ‘who blinks first’.

In another reshuffle in West Indies cricket, CWI president Ricky Skerritt has announced Kieron Pollard as the new ODI and T20I captain. Pollard has not played an ODI in nearly three years but CWI has decided to give him the captaincy after Jason Holder led them in the format recently in the World Cup and against India at home.

T&T's Kieron Pollard has been named West Indies 'white ball' captain and will replace Jason Holder and Carlos Brathwaite respectively.
A source close to the situation who spoke to Guardian Media Sports on the condition anonymity explained that the decision was taken by Cricket West Indies (CWI) Board of Directors. Guardian Sports understands that the CWI directors made the decision on Saturday, the first day of their two-day regular quarterly meeting at the Hilton Trinidad Hotel in Port-of-Spain.
Pollard, 32, who is captaining the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in the absence of regular captain Darren Bravo, who is injured and will be out of action for two months, was the player proposed by the selection committee and when the vote was taken, he got the support from six directors while the other six abstained.

In Game 2 of this season’s CPL, it was a battle of the West Indian youths, with several youngWest Indian talents on show. Though none shone brighter than Keemo Paul and Obed McCoy.

WINDIES Women are currently a puzzle of moving pieces; with Deandra Dottin not yet recovered from surgery, Shakera Selman, Chedean Nation and Shemaine Campbelle all missing due to injury, along with news of Hayley Matthews’ withdrawal from the ODI squad for the Colonial Medical Insurance series against Australia. Matthews, who was replaced by Sheneta Grimmond, was withdrawn for a “charge of breaching the CWI Code of Conduct following an incident that took place on Wednesday 4th September 2019 in Antigua”.
