West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph has been ruled out of the two-Test series against India next month because of an injury. He will be replaced by the uncapped pace-bowling allrounder Johann Layne.
A CWI tweet confirmed that Joseph had been ruled out and that he would be re-evaluated before the white-ball tour of Bangladesh, but did not mention the nature of the injury. After the Tests in India finish on October 14, West Indies are scheduled to play three ODIs in Bangladesh from October 18, followed by three T20Is from October 27 to November 1.
It's a busy touring season for West Indies across formats as they will then fly to New Zealand for an all-format tour of five T20Is, three ODIs and three Tests. They are currently in the UAE for three T20Is against Nepal starting September 27.
Joseph has played 11 Tests so far for 51 wickets at an average of 21.66, having started his Test career with a five-for on debut against Australia in January 2024.

Jamaica Tallawahs, the three-time CPL champions and one of its six inaugural teams, have not featured in the league for the last two editions. The franchise's most recent owners, Kris Persaud, sold it back to the league in 2023 and bought the rights to a new team, which became the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons.
Left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein said he and the senior players in the Windies setup will have to shoulder the responsibility when the Men In Maroon face Nepal in a three-match T20 series at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates, from September 27-30.
The 32-year-old Hosein, who put in a timely Man of the Match performance in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) final on September 21 to help Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) to their fifth CPL title, will captain the Windies team which will be without a number of first-team players.

South Africa are scheduled to host West Indies for five T20Is between January 27 and February 6, but as reported by ESPNcricinfo last week, the T20 World Cup is set to be played between February 7 and March 8.
TRINBAGO Knight Riders (TKR) will receive this country’s second-highest national award, Chaconia Gold, after winning the 2025 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League title, on September 21, with a victory over the Guyana Amazon Warriors.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar made the announcement at the Diplomatic Centre, on September 23, after meeting with TKR players and staff. Also meeting with Persad-Bissessar were World Championship medallists Keshorn Walcott and Jereem Richards. Walcott copped gold in the men’s javelin and Richards took silver in the men’s 400-metre event.
