JONATHAN VAN Lange and Aadian Racha shared an unbroken partnership of 28 for the ninth wicket as the West Indies Under-19s held on to earn an important two-wicket win over Sri Lanka Under-19s in the fifth Youth One-Day International in Antigua yesterday.
Chasing the visitors’ total of 172 in 48 overs at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, West Indies slid to 145 for eight before van Lange, who scored an unbeaten 24, and Racha, who made 17 not out, steadied the ship and carried them to 173 for eight in 47.4 overs.
It gave the West Indies a crucial 3-2 lead over Sri Lanka in their best-of-seven series and needing just one more win to clinch the series.
The home side seemed to be coasting to victory when opener Micah Greenidge and Earshino Fontaine were at the crease during a 101-run partnership that propelled them to 104 for one in the 25th over.

Barbados Royals have suffered a significant blow on the eve of their WCPL title defence, with a shoulder injury ruling out their captain Hayley Matthews for the entire season.
Allrounder Chinelle Henry will lead Royals in Matthews’ absence.
Matthews is the WCPL’s leading run-getter (424 at a strike rate of 113.06) and wicket-taker (23 with an economy rate of 5.79), and a key player in Royals’ title-winning campaigns of 2023 and 2024. She was Player of the Match in the 2023 final against Guyana Amazon Warriors, scoring a 59-ball 82 and taking two wickets, and Player of the Series in the 2024 season.
Royals announced the news of Matthews’ injury via X, formerly Twitter. They have not announced a replacement yet.

West Indies’ exciting young pace sensation, Jayden Seales, has been rewarded for a devastating bowling display by earning a nomination for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for August.
The 23-year-old Trinidadian finds himself in elite company, shortlisted alongside New Zealand’s Matt Henry and India’s Mohammed Siraj for the prestigious monthly honour.
Seales’s nomination comes on the back of a Player of the Series performance in the recent three-match ODI series against Pakistan on home soil.

Selecting just one wicket-keeper for MY All West Indies Test XI, with six players already included – Joel Garner, Sir Curty Ambrose, late Malcolm Marshall, Sir Wes Hall, Lancelot Gibbs, Sir Gary Sobers – is probably the hardest, most contentious decision ever, even with great battersalso vying for thoselast four positions. The batsmen would be relatively easier.
In no order or merit, the following had been Test wicket-keepers for WI since 1928, when WI started playing Tests. Some named might even have been forgotten altogether already.

Captain Joshua Dorne, aided by Shaquan Belle and Brendan Boodoo guided the West Indies Under-19 cricket team to a series-levelling two-wicket victory over their Sri Lankan counterparts in the fourth match of their Youth One-Day International series, yesterday.
The victory at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua was achieved under the Duckworth/Lewis/Stern method.
Asked to chase 182 for victory, the WI Under-19s reached 167 for eight in 34.4 overs. Belle guided his side to the target with an unbeaten 41 off 31 balls.
Earlier, skipper Dorne and Boodoo had laid a platform for the win with a fifth wicket partnership of 76, before Trinidad and Tobago player Boodoo was stumped off the bowling of Kugathas Mathulan for 34 to leave the WI total on 98 for five. Dorne was next to go two runs later (100 for six) for an even 50, which included six fours and a six. Belle’s brisk knock then ensured the home team got to their DLS target.
