TRANSGENDER WOMEN will not be allowed to compete in international women’s cricket, the sport’s governing body said yesterday.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) said the “new gender eligibility regulation,” which was approved by board members, had been imposed to protect the integrity of women’s cricket and was also made on safety grounds.
“Male-to-female participants who have undergone male puberty will not be eligible to compete in the international women’s game,” the ICC said.
It added that the regulations would apply “irrespective of any surgical or gender reassignment treatment” players may have undertaken.

Chanderpaul was not out on 27 and McCaskie was not out on 17, with the Caribbean side 46 without loss, replying to South Africa A’s first-innings total of 287 for nine declared at stumps on the first day of the match at Willowmoore Park.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) lead selector Desmond Haynes has called for the selectors on the various cricket boards in the Caribbean to put greater emphasis on young talent, as the Windies look ahead to the 2027 Cricket World Cup.
On Monday, CWI announced a 15-member squad for the December 3-9 One-day international (ODI) series against England, with Haynes saying the Windies selection panel has made investments in players such as Alick Athanaze, 24, and the pair of Keacy Carty and Shimron Hetmyer, both 26.
"I think it is up to the territories to show us the talent we have in the region. We should expose (these players from an earlier age). It is not right for them to be playing for the (West Indies) under-19s and doing well and not getting the opportunity to play for their franchise teams," Haynes said during a CWI press briefing on Monday.
"When you are selecting sides in regional cricket, we are seeing the same players all the time.
UNBEATEN HALF-CENTURIES from their captain Nyeem Young and opener Matthew Nandu fired the Cricket West Indies Academy to a six-wicket win against Emerging Ireland in their third One-day, 50 overs-a-side match yesterday in Antigua.
Young battered eight fours and three sixes in the top score of 75 not out off 67 balls, and Nandu gathered only three fours in a resolute 63 off 107 balls to help the CWI Academy successfully chase 176 at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground to clinch the three-match series 2-1.
The CWI Academy captain dominated a stand of 115 – unbroken – with Nandu for the fifth wicket after left-arm spinner Matthew Humphreys grabbed two for 52 from 9.3 overs, and the chase ran into a bit of a wobble on 64 for four in the 20th over.
Chief selector Desmond Haynes says West Indies’ forward planning for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) resulted in veteran left-hander Darren Bravo being overlooked for next month’s three-match series against England.
The 34-year-old Bravo was the leading scorer in the just concluded Super50 Cup in Trinidad where he piled up 416 runs at an average of 83, while captaining home side Red Force to their 14th domestic 50-over title.
“I think it was a very tough decision for us to make as a panel,” Haynes told a virtual media conference yesterday after the 15-man squad for the series was announced.
