Former Guyana and West Indies Captain Ramnaresh ‘Ronnie’ Sarwan, speaking with Alexis Jordon on the Jamaican Sports Max Zone TV programme on Friday Evening says he was ‘framed out’ of West Indies cricket.
“Throughout my International career, I never felt the stress of people wanting you out of a system. I have always played with joy and a smile on my face and I started to lose that.
And from that time I kinda lose it mentally. If we were playing in Trinidad, my mind was in Australia.
Mentally I was framed out and once I got to that stage it was very difficult for me to come back,” said Sarwan who was appointed Assistant Coach of the Jamaica Tallawahs for the last two seasons of the CPL.
Sarwan, who turned 40 last week Tuesday, said while some people were vindictive and said negative things about him, which got back to him, he does not hold grudges against those players or against the Board.
LONDON, United Kingdom (AFP) — The West Indies cricket team will wear “Black Lives Matter” logos on their shirts during next month's Test series against England in a show of solidarity with the global movement.
The tourists will follow the lead of English Premier League footballers during the three-Test series which starts at The Ageas Bowl on July 8.
The move comes after the death of African American George Floyd in US police custody last month.
The logo, which has a clenched fist in place of the letter 'A' in the word “Black”, was designed by Watford player Troy Deeney's partner, Alisha Hosannah.
West Indies Captain Jason Holder said the team remained focused on winning the series but that there were bigger issues to address.
“This is a pivotal moment in history for sports, for the game of cricket, and for the West Indies cricket team,” he said in a statement issued by Cricket West Indies.
West Indies head coach Phil Simmons was granted permission to attend his father-in-law’s funeral in England last Friday. That’s the word from Cricket West Indies CEO Johnny Grave, who was responding to queries from Sportsmax.TV.
Simmons has been self-isolating since and will only be permitted to re-join the team on Thursday, July 2, if he returns two negative Covid-19 tests.
“Yes, he left to go to his father-in-law's funeral on Friday and is now going through the re-entry process having had his whole exit and entry approved and managed by the medical teams,” Grave said.
West Indies fast bowling great Andy Roberts believes Shimron Hetmyer erred when deciding to forego the West Indies tour of England.
“They would have played an integral part of the batting,” he said during a recent conversation with Michael Holding on Holding’s YouTube channel. He suggested that the tour to England was an opportunity to improve his batting.
