BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — West Indies Women Head Coach Courtney Walsh says one of the key things he will be looking for in the upcoming series against New Zealand Women is how the squad works with recently appointed captain Hayley Matthews.
The 24-year-old Barbadian took over as skipper in June from Stafanie Taylor, who was at the helm for seven years, and the three ODIs and five T20Is starting next month will be her first assignments as the new captain.
"We have to give her all the support," Walsh said in a brief interview with CWI media.
"It's just going to be interesting to see how everybody responds to the new captain, to the new ideas that we have, and to sort of get back into playing competitive cricket.
ST JOHN'S, Antigua (CMC) — Cricket West Indies (CWI) has welcomed the unveiling of the men's and women's International Cricket Council (ICC) Future Tours Programme (FTP), which will be highlighted by major home series against powerhouses India and England next year and the staging of the men's Twenty20 (T20) World Cup in the Caribbean.
The men's side will take on India in July and August, while England will tour the Caribbean for a white-ball series in December, the fixtures forming part of over 150 internationals scheduled to be played during the new 2023-2027 FTP cycle. West Indies Women, meanwhile, will play 66 matches during the first-ever Women's FTP, which runs from 2022-2025. The eight-match series against New Zealand Women in Antigua next month will kick-start the cycle for the Caribbean side before they turn their attention to a Tri-Nation Series in South Africa involving India Women at the start of 2023.
"Cricket West Indies is pleased that the new men's and women's FTP has been agreed as it provides some certainty of our bilateral tours and matches across all formats against all other full member nations," said CWI chief executive Johnny Grave.
West Indies have been fined and hit with a World Cup Super League points deduction for maintaining a slow over-rate in Sunday's third ODI defeat to New Zealand, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced.

ST GEORGE’S, Grenada – Cricket West Indies (CWI) today announced the match schedule for the return of the West Indies Rising Stars Under 15 Championship for boys to be hosted by the Grenada Cricket Association from Saturday 20 August to Friday 27 August.
The Rising Stars Under 15 Championship features the six regional teams who will play five rounds of 50-over matches at three venues – the Grenada National Stadium, Lasagesse Ground and Progress Park – with the winners determined by the team with the most points from their matches.
This is the first time that the West Indies Rising Stars Under 15 Championship has been played since 2019. The return of this age group tournament is a vital step in the development of the most promising players aged 15-and-under across the region.
ST JOHN’S, Antigua – The West Indies Women will start the first ever International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s Future Tours Programme (FTP) for the period 2022-2025 with an eight-match home series against New Zealand Women in Antigua next month, followed by England Women in December of 2022.
The West Indies Women will play 66 international matches home and away across the three-year period, plus there will be a major ICC Women’s World Cup tournament each year. West Indies start the 2023 year with a tri-series in South Africa featuring India as the teams build up to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, South Africa 2023. The other major ICC tournaments to follow during the FTP are the Women’s T20 World Cup Bangladesh in September to October 2024 and the Women’s Cricket World Cup India in September to October 2025.
