Hurricane Beryl has been wreaking havoc across the eastern Caribbean, with the storm hitting Tobago, Carriacou and St Vincent and the Grenadines early on July 1.
Trinidad also felt the adverse effects of the category four storm.
Both St Vincent and the Grenadines and TT are hosts of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars Men and Women’s Under-19 Championships carded to begin on July 2.
Newsday contacted CWI vice president Azim Bassarath for an update on the start of the tournament.
He said, “Nothing as yet. We don’t know what is the situation with flights coming out of the different islands after Beryl.”
Bassarath sent two pictures and four videos of the destruction caused by Beryl in neighbouring Caribbean islands.
The tournament he said has been virtually “put on hold."

Six players from the title-winning Indian squad have been named in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 team of the tournament. India finished the tournament unbeaten, winning a thrilling final against South Africa by seven runs at Kensington Oval, Barbados on Saturday.
Rohit Sharma
Runs: 257, Average: 36.71, Strike-rate: 156.7, Fifties: 3
Setting the tone at the top of the order, Rohit Sharma embraced India's new approach in T20Is and showed the way with his brilliant ball striking. Scoring at a rate of 156.7, the Indian skipper made 257 runs in the tournament, the second-most by any player. With three fifties in eight games, Rohit showed consistency as well while maintaining a brilliant strike-rate. His best came against Australia in the Super Eight, when he bludgeoned one of the best attacks in the tournament for 92 in just 41 balls. In the semi-final, he once again made an impact with a 57 off 39 balls. Rohit also led the side admirably as a leader, taking the side to a historic T20 World Cup title win after 17 years.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz
Runs: 281, Average: 35.12, Strike-rate: 124.33, Fifties: 3
Alongside Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmanullah Gurbaz forged an impressive opening partnership, scoring 446 runs as a pair, including three century stands and was critical to Afghanistan's run to the semi-finals of the tournament. Gurbaz shone with exceptional knocks against Uganda (76), New Zealand (80), Australia (60) and Bangladesh (43). He finished as the leading run-scorer in the tournament and was Afghanistan's star with the bat at the top of the order.
Nicholas Pooran
Runs: 228, Average: 38.0, Strike-rate: 146.15, Fifties: 1
Nicholas Pooran established his status as one of the best batters in the format with 228 runs in the tournament, scoring at a rate of 146.16. The next best West Indies batter made just 140 runs. Pooran finished as the sixth-highest run-getter despite his high-risk batting, and his knock of 98 against Afghanistan guided the team to an excellent win. It was also the highest score recorded by a player in the tournament.

The West Indian top three of Stafanie Taylor, Hayley Matthews and Shemaine Campbelle ensured a triumphant end to a challenging tour of Sri Lanka, as they anchored a six-wicket win in the third and final T20I in Hambantota to complete a come-from-behind 2-1 series win.
Campbelle remained unbeaten at the end on a 30-ball 41 as West Indies chased down a target of 142 with just one ball to spare. The margin of victory however belies the control the visitors exuded in the chase.
Taylor and Mathews put on a 60-run opening stand in just 48 deliveries, after which Matthews paired up with Campbelle for a 44-ball 51-run stand. When Matthews fell, trapped leg before attempting to swipe one from Kawya Kavindi across the line, the West Indies were on 111 for 2.

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced an updated 15-member squad for the three-Test Richards Botham series in England, starting on 10 July 2024 at Lord's. The squad features one significant change: Kemar Roach has been replaced by St. Kitts & Nevis’ fast bowler, Jeremiah Louis due to Roach's ongoing rehabilitation from a knee injury sustained during the County Championship in England.
Lead Selector the Most Honorable Dr. Desmond Haynes remarked “Kemar’s skill and experience in English conditions will be missed however this opportunity has been long in the making for Jeremiah Louis, he certainly has the skill and experience to make an impact in England.”
The Richards Botham series, named after West Indies legend Sir Vivian Richards and England great Lord Ian Botham, is a historic rivalry dating back to 1928 when the West Indies first toured England.

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados — Additional tickets for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 finals matches have been released with Afghanistan, England, India and South Africa now confirmed as the four semi-finalists.
The additional release of tickets includes the Final at Kensington Oval in Barbados on 29 June, where General Admission tickets were previously exhausted.
After a dramatic Super 8 stage, the first semi-final will see South Africa take on Afghanistan, who have reached the semi-finals of an ICC World Cup event for the first time, at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad on 26 June at 20h30 local time.
The second semi-final will see India take on defending champions England at the Guyana National Stadium on 27 June at 10h30 local time.
