Cricket West Indies president Ricky Skerritt says West Indies white-ball captain Kieron Pollard and coach Phil Simmons have been under fire from some loud critics in the Caribbean who want them sacked. Giving the two his backing, however, Skerritt ruled out any immediate changes.
“Phil and Pollard have a few, but loud, critics who want them gone for non-cricket reasons,” the CWI president told Cricbuzz ahead of the West Indies team’s visit to India for a six-match white-ball series.
“I have no reason to believe there will be any change in coach and captain any time soon. But remember the captaincy is evaluated as is the coach. If the system says these guys are not the right people, we will deal with it. At the moment I don’t see anything coming at me that says these guys must go. Caribbean people like to take people down,” he told an India TV station.
In the aftermath of their 3-2 T20I series triumph over England, West Indies players have rightly been basking in the glory of defeating the No.1 ranked team. West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder praised both teams for their roles in the five-match encounter that came down to a dramatic finish.
“I think both teams played a really good series and it was good to see the way it ended,” he said while speaking to Cricket West Indies.
And following the allegations of ongoing victimization in the Caribbean team’s dressing room, Holder had this to say:
“I think it fuels different people, differently. I’m one to just shut it out. I’ve heard so much of it, [that] it’s time to stop hearing it and just crack on and do what’s required of you.”

THAT powerful innings of 107 by Rovman Powell in the third ODI game against England on January 26 at Kensington Oval, Barbados, was authoritative in its execution and compelling in its entertainment value. I appreciated what Powell had to say after the game.
After explaining how proud he felt, he went on to explain:
“For the last five-six months I’ve been working hard and when you work hard, it’s good to see it pay off.” His innings helped build the WI score to 224 which proved to be out of reach for England’s batsmen (204).
I’m pleased to hear that someone has benefitted from putting in the hours of tough practice. Nicholas Pooran also produced a delightful innings of 70 after his wobbly start revealed a lack of confidence.
West Indies Under-19s secured an eight-wicket win over Zimbabwe Under-19s to finish 11th in the ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup on Monday.
In the match played at the Diego Martin Sports Complex in Trinidad and Tobago, Zimbabwe Under-19s won the toss and elected to bat first.
This proved to be a good decision as they batted well to amass 256-4 off their 50 overs thanks to half-centuries from David Bennett who made 77 not out off 105 balls and Brian Bennett, who made 62 off 84 balls. Connor Mitchell provided the Zimbabweans with an important late innings push with 42 not out off 26 balls.
Johann Layne took 2-44 off seven overs for the West Indies.
