Joshua Bishop clobbered a breathtaking maiden hundred (102 not out) in his third first-class match, as West Indies Academy took control of their opening game against Ireland Academy here yesterday.
Entering at number eight, the 23-year-old belted nine fours and eight sixes in a stunning 69-ball knock which propelled the hosts to 409 all out in their first innings at Coolidge Cricket Ground, in response to Ireland Academy’s 213.
Teddy Bishop converted his overnight 48 into 90, Kevlon Anderson turned his unbeaten 20 at the start into 79, while 20-year-old Johann Layne followed up his three-wicket haul on Saturday with a lively 50-ball 56 at number 10.
Armed with a lead of 196, WI Academy quickly reduced the Irish to 29 for three, captain Nyeem Young snatching two wickets to finish with two for 15 from six overs of medium pace.
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad & Tobago (CMC) — An aggrieved Darren Bravo said late Saturday he planned to "step away just for a bit" following the latest snub by West Indies selectors, which saw him left out of the upcoming One-Day International (ODI) squad to face England next month.
In an emotional post on social media platform Instagram, the 34-year-old said he had "taken some time to ponder and wonder" about his future in West Indies cricket and, while he was not "giving up", believed a break would be the best move for his career.
He gave no clear indication of the length of the break, however, but said it was proving difficult to continue finding motivation amidst the ongoing selection disappointments.
"At this point in my career it's not easy or should I say it takes a lot to continue to find the energy, the passion, commitment and discipline to be able to perform to the best of my ability and put myself in a position to make my return to international cricket," Bravo said.
ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced that Jordan Johnson will replace Kevlon Anderson in the West Indies “A” Team 14-member squad for the ongoing tour of South Africa.
Unfortunately, Anderson experienced challenges with his visa documentation and was unable to travel to South Africa. Anderson will now join the West Indies Academy team in Antigua for the two four-day, first-class matches against Emerging Ireland at the Coolidge Cricket Ground (CCG).
Johnson will travel immediately to South Africa and will be available for selection for the second and third four-day “Test” matches against South Africa “A”. Following the recent International Cricket Council (ICC) announcement that South Africa will now host the ICC Men’s U19 Cricket World Cup in January 2024, the “A” Team call up provides Johnson with the opportunity to gain valuable experience of South African conditions.

The Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) says it is eager to get plans going with the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) ahead of a potential campaign at the Los Angeles (LA) Olympic Games in 2028.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recently named cricket as one of the new sports to feature at the LA Games, with baseball, flag football, lacrosse, squash, and softball.
But JCA Secretary General Ryan Foster says that the body has already established a relationship with the JCA like it has with other sporting associations that were not under the Olympic charter, and this, he says, will help to make for easy dialogue.
"The JCA has been a member of the JOA for many years," Foster told the Jamaica Observer recently. "They've always been, even though they were a non-Olympic sport. They would've benefited from our equipment grant that we did in 2019.
