PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad – Former West Indies Women’s captain and ICC Women’s T20 World Cup winner Merissa Aguilleira recently took part in further Coach Development initiatives aimed at supporting her journey towards becoming a professional coach.
Aguilleira who is also the Trinidad & Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) technical director (TD) for women's cricket, participated in the face-to-face component of the CWI Representative Coaching Programme (Level 2) which was held at the National Cricket Centre in Couva, Trinidad on 13 and 14 June.
Aguilleira has been involved in recent cricket series, including the Trinidad & Tobago Women’s tour of Barbados in May and the Cricket West Indies Women’s Tournaments (CG United Super50 and T20 Blaze) in Guyana. She is also playing a major role in the CWI Women’s Under-19 T20 event as Tournament Director. She is recognized among the most successful women’s cricketers for West Indies and she explained why she has taken up this coaching journey.
The St Kitts & Nevis Patriots have announced their overseas signings for the 2022 Hero Caribbean Premier League which gets underway on 31 August.
This year they will be joined by Sri Lankan leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga. Also heading to the Patriots is the hugely exciting South African batter Dewald Brevis who has impressed for the Mumbai Indians at the Indian Premier League.
Hasaranga will be available after the first few matches of the Patriots season and Pakistani off-spinner Qasim Akram will be with the franchise until he arrives. Akram led the Pakistan team which took part in the U19 Cricket World Cup in the Caribbean earlier this year.
PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad – The region’s best Under-19 women’s cricketers will assemble in Trinidad for the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Women’s U19s Rising Stars T20 Championship, with matches be played from Tuesday 5 July to Wednesday 13 July at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy (BLCA) and the Diego Martin Sporting Complex (DMSC). The six regional franchise teams will be participating, as well as the United States of America Women’s U19s team.
At the end of the tournament, a West Indies Women’s U19s Rising Stars squad will be selected for a proposed international U19 series against the United States in Lauderhill, Florida in early August. Additionally, players will be looking to put in strong performances in order to be considered for selection for the inaugural ICC Women’s U19 World Cup in South Africa, scheduled for January 2023.
The Trinbago Knight Riders have announced their overseas signings for the 2022 Hero Caribbean Premier League which gets underway on 31 August.
Colin Munro, the Hero CPL’s leading overseas run-scorer of all time, and fellow New Zealander Tim Seifert are back with the Knight Riders for the 2022 tournament.
They will be joined by USA international Ali Khan who is with the Knight Riders for another year having first joined them in 2017.
Man of the Match Rovman Powell scored a quick-fire unbeaten half-century as the West Indies sealed a 35–run victory in the second T20 International against Bangladesh and take a 1-0 lead in their three-match series in Dominica on Sunday.
Chasing 194 for victory, Bangladesh scored 158-6 off their 20 overs.
Shakib al Hasan’s unbeaten 68 took the tourists close but the West Indies bowlers were always on top, notwithstanding a few big overs for Bangladesh near the end.
Romario Shepherd took 2-38 and Obed McCoy, who took wickets with the first two balls he bowled in the match, returned figures of 2-37, 20 of them conceded in the 19th over of the match.
