Sir Vivian Richards has questioned the commitment of the current crop of West Indies players and has expressed his disappointment at the team’s performance and early exit from the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.
This latest embarrassment from the two-time world champions, has not gone down well with the Master Blaster who won two ICC World Cup titles with the West Indies in 1975 and 1979.
During an interview on the Good Morning Jo Jo radio show in Antigua, Richards did not hold back his feelings.
“I’m really, really, really disappointed. I honestly felt that they would have fought their way out of the qualifying stages to get themselves into the Super 12,” said Richards, who was recently named an ambassador for the Lankan Premier League.

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – The Cricket West Indies Selection Panel today named the West Indies Women’s U19 squad for the upcoming tour of India. The players for the T20 matches were selected after trial matches in Trinidad.
Ashmini Munisar has been named as captain of the 15-member squad with Trishan Holder as vice captain. They will be under the guidance of Head Coach Steve Liburd. Munisar is an allrounder who led the team when West Indies Women's U19 played against USA Women’s U19 in Fort Lauderdale in August. Holder is a top-order batter who was a member of the Barbados team at the Commonwealth Games playing matches against Pakistan, Australia and India.
The upcoming tour will feature matches against India ‘A’ Women U19, India ‘B’ Women U19 and Sri Lanka Women U19 in Visakhapatnam at the Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy International Cricket Stadium. West Indies will then travel to Mumbai where they play against New Zealand Women U19 at the D.Y. Patil Stadium.

Alick Athanaze scored his second ton in as many games as the Windward Islands Volcanoes scored a 50-run (D/L) victory over the Combined Colleges and Campuses during the CG Insurance Super50 competition that resumed in Antigua on Wednesday.
Athanaze scored 140 and shared in a second-wicket partnership of 208 with Kavem Hodge(106 not out) after the Windward Islands Volcanoes had lost the wicket of Johnson Charles for nine with 26 runs on the board.
Athanaze was eventually dismissed in the 42nd following a stay of 129 deliveries during which he hit 16 fours and three sixes.
Three wickets fell for 18 runs as the Windwards lost Shadrack Descarte for one and Sunil Ambris for five to slip to 252-4 in the 46th over.

TRINIDAD and Tobago Red Force fell to the Guyana Harpy Eagles by three runs in a CG Insurance Super50 Cup nail-biter at Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Tarouba, on Wednesday night.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, the visitors put on 269/9 led by Romario Shepherd’s unbeaten knock of 74, in their 50 overs.
In response, TT put on another slow chase and suffered in the end, as they were restricted to 266/6 against a persistent Guyana outfit.
Darren Bravo top-scored for TT with a painstaking knock of 71 runs from 88 balls while opening batsman Kjorn Ottley chipped in with 49.

RIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — Chief selector Desmond Haynes believes the opening combination of Kraigg Brathwaite and the uncapped Tagenarine Chanderpaul can pay dividends for West Indies in Australia despite their almost identical batting styles.
The 26-year-old Chanderpaul has been included in the 16-man squad for the two-Test series starting next month, and in the absence of attacking opener John Campbell, is expected to partner Brathwaite at the top of the order.
Both Chanderpaul and Brathwaite are attritional in their approach, trending more towards being occupiers of the crease rather than fluent run-scorers, but Haynes said this could prove a boon for West Indies.
"I believe [they can work well together]. I think what you have to take into consideration too is with Tage, a young man, he's got a very good technique to the new ball which is good," said Haynes, himself one of Test cricket's legendary openers.
